Job Description - Engineering Manager

Eaton\u2019s IS AER ITD Aerospace division is currently seeking a Engineering Manager. \n\nThe expected annual salary range for this role is $149000 - $219000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.\n\nPlease note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. \n\n** This role requires working on-site M-F at our Camarillo, CA location. If needed, relocation assistance is available for a qualified candidate. \n\n## What you\u2019ll do:\n\nPRIMARY FUNCTION: \nThe product design engineering manager leads a team of product design engineers responsible for: Internal research and development, new product development (NPD/NPI), sustaining engineering for ongoing production, manufacturing sourcing changes, cost out projects, and new business campaigns. He/she is responsible for managing project engineering work from initial scoping through execution and eventual project closure and providing communication on this work to internal and external stakeholders. He/she helps coordinate all work within the scope of assigned projects, managing engineering scope change, risks, and issues working alongside program managers. This role is responsible for functional management activities including hiring, performance management, and talent development. This engineering manager will be responsible for mechanical hold down/release mechanism devices for aviation, military, and space applications, as well as support plant sustaining engineering for electrical connector product lines.\n\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: \n\u2022 Leads teams supporting current design and development or on legacy/sustaining product support for hold down and release mechanism products and related components used in aviation, space, industrial, and military applications. \n\u2022 Leads engineers assigned to global, cross functional teams and multiple manufacturing locations to support ongoing production, new product launches, and product manufacturing transfers/sourcing. This includes manufacturing locations in the Americas, EMEA, and APAC. \n\u2022 Manages teams responsible for, or directly leads, communication with customer engineering teams. \n\u2022 Manages teams responsible for product design and documentation captured through Engineering Change Orders (ECO\u2019s), leveraging Eaton\u2019s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. \n\u2022 Manages teams that provide, or directly leads, technical reviews with internal and external stakeholders. \n\u2022 Manages teams that provide, or directly provides, technical support to customers, suppliers, internal manufacturing engineers, and internal sales and marketing teams. This includes responsibilities for new and existing projects, assessing non-recurring cost estimates (NRE) and managing project scope changes, developing engineering-specific activity schedules, developing engineering standards, and reviewing/approving technical documents/deliverables. \n\u2022 Leads teams responsible for the planning and specification of new product requirements, as well as detailed validation and verification plans working alongside a cross-functional team. \n\u2022 Leads teams responsible for witnessing testing of products and managing test program communication within and external to the enterprise. \n\u2022 Leads Eaton\u2019s prototype and tooling manufacturing lab, with responsibility in ensuring on time delivery and quality of deliverables. \n\u2022 Leads teams responsible for failure analysis including 8D (8 disciplines problem solving), and provides guidance on root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities. \n\u2022 Leads teams responsible for MRB review of discrepant hardware and assessment of functionality where appropriate/delegated by customers. \n\u2022 Leads teams, and sets standards for, creation and management of product data in Eaton\u2019s PLM (Enovia). \n\u2022 Responsible for supporting the assessment of jurisdiction and classification of hardware and technical data in accordance with the ITAR and EAR. \n\u2022 Responsible for talent management for his/her team including promotions, performance management, hiring, and coaching. \n\u2022 Supports ongoing sustaining engineering for electrical connector products where/when required.\n\n## Qualifications:\n\nRequired Basic Qualifications:\n\n\u2022 Bachelor\u0027s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or similar engineering field from an ABET accredited institution. \n\u2022 Minimum 7 years of product engineering experience required. \n\u2022 Minimum 3 years of engineering management experience required. \n\u2022 Demonstrated knowledge/proficiency in talent management including hiring and development of direct reports. \n\u2022 Leadership experience including delegation and coaching of direct reports.\n\n\u2022 Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. \u0027Green Card Holder\u0027), Political Asylee, or Refugee.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n\u2022 Master\u2019s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Business Administration.\n\n\u2022 \u003e5 years experience in engineering management. \n\u2022 Design knowledge of interconnect components (connectors, backshells /accessories, wiring assemblies) for aviation, aerospace, and industrial markets. \n\u2022 Experience working with metallic plating\u0027s/coatings and non-metallic materials including polymers, ceramics, and glass and graphite composites. \n\u2022 Experience using Enovia Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) software and Solidworks CAD software. \n\u2022 Experience in directing product launches in Best Cost Country (BCC) locations in North America. \n\u2022 Experience in directing product launches in US manufacturing locations for military and or aerospace products. \n\u2022 Additional Certifications: Lean 6-sigma methods preferred, including Design for Six Sigma (DFSS/SSDD) Green Belt or Black Belt, or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.\n\n\u2022 Experience leading product qualification programs for mechanical and/or electrical products. \n\u2022 Ability to interpret and generate 3D CAD models and drawings. \n\u2022 Knowledge of ECN/ECO (Engineering Change Order or Notification) processes for document change management. \n\u2022 Ability to complete basic engineering calculations for sizing and design of mechanical components. \n\u2022 Demonstrated understanding of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. \n\u2022 Proficiency in Product Data Management or Product Life-Cycle Management (PDM/PLM) systems for document control and workflow management. \n\u2022 Expertise in leading teams through management of requirements and developing compliance strategy.\n\n## Additional Information:\n\n\u2022 Strong record of leading teams to success on complex engineering programs working alongside customer technical teams. \n\u2022 Excellent internal (within business) and external (customers, vendors, etc) communication skills on both technical and non-technical subjects. \n\u2022 Negotiates customer requirements and compliance methods, aligning intracompany teams around a clearly scoped mission. \n\u2022 Proficiency in establishing collaborative and trusting working relationships within and outside of the enterprise.
