The Opportunity

At Sema4.ai, we're building an Enterprise AI Agent platform that reinvents how knowledge work happens—how people and AI agents collaborate to get work done better and faster. You'll manage a distributed, fast-moving team responsible for building the core of our product: the Agent.

We're hiring an Engineering Manager who is a strong team player and can operate effectively in a distributed product organization. You'll confidently lead sharp, senior ICs while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across a distributed team.

What You’ll Do

• Deliver Customer Value: Lead the team to translate customer needs into production-ready solutions, ensuring optimal quality, security, and performance at every stage of the software development lifecycle. 


• Build & Scale Teams:Hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent. Create high-performing teams that balance autonomy with accountability in a distributed environment.


• Stay Hands-On: While programming isn't your primary job, you'll get familiar with the Python codebase and dedicate around 20% of your time to hands-on engineering work to understand what your team is building.


• Drive Technical Excellence: Partner with your peers to ensure architectural decisions align with business goals. Foster engineering best practices across your team.


• Execute & Iterate: Own delivery timelines, manage stakeholder expectations, and ensure your team ships high-quality features that move key metrics.

What You Bring

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering with 5+ years in engineering management, including managing distributed teams.


• Leadership & Communication Skills: Excellent ability to inspire teams, manage up and across, and convey complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Comfortable driving projects, influencing stakeholders, and developing senior engineers in distributed environments.


• People-First Leadership: Track record of building high-performing teams. Experience with performance management, career development, and creating psychologically safe environments where engineers thrive.


• Technical Depth: Engineering background that allows you to confidently engage in technical discussions and guide architectural decisions.


• Distributed Systems Expertise: Comfortable working with complex, high-availability distributed systems running on containerized environments such as Kubernetes.


• Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Adept at navigating ambiguous requirements, focusing on outcomes, and rapidly iterating to deliver high-quality solutions in a demanding, results-driven setting.
