Position Summary
The Engineering Operations Support Specialist (aka WTP Technical Support) will support the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Hanford Field Office (HFO), Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) Engineering Division. The successful candidate will provide engineering operations support by assisting with oversight of contractor assurance activities, conduct of operations, issue management, and engineering assessments while working closely with DOE leadership, regulatory organizations, and contractor personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Support DOE oversight of contractor conduct of operations, technical training programs, maintenance activities, and work control processes.
- Perform engineering assessments and document results within the DOE Integrated Contractor Assurance System (iCAS) database.
- Coordinate issue identification, tracking, corrective actions, and resolution with HFO engineering staff, regulatory organizations, and supporting contractors.
- Interface professionally with DOE senior management, contractor leadership, and federal, state, and local agency representatives.
- Research, interpret, and apply DOE directives, policies, procedures, and program management requirements to support engineering oversight activities.
- Prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate reports, assessments, briefing materials, and correspondence.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating engineering processes and recommending operational enhancements.
- Participate in meetings, reviews, and project discussions supporting the Hanford Site mission.
Experience & Qualifications
- BS/BA degree in engineering, science, or business management. Six (6) years of experience may be substituted for a BS/BA degree.
- Six (6) years of directly experience with HFO WTP/WED as a management consultant or senior manager, interfacing and working with organizational executives and senior management, or senior technical or business individuals, within government or industry on significant management, technical, or business issues.
- Experience of writing assessment reports for WTP and entering into iCAS.
- Comprehensive understanding of the Hanford Site mission, activities, and priorities.
- In-depth knowledge of DOE Hanford processes and procedures.
- Proficient in DOE’s program management practices, policies, and procedures.
- Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn and utilize, various technology management tools used at Hanford.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft 365, MS Word, and Excel.
