Job Summary Description
If you are selected as the Engineering Superintendent, you will ensure engineering, repair and maintenance needs of Polar Tankers are identified, planned, and safely implemented on time and on budget.

Success in this role will be measured by the contribution made to the operational team's overall performance in managing vessel effectiveness, compliance with regulations, achievement of operating standards meeting operational integrity expectations and contribution to the efficiency and cost measures.
Job Description
Responsibilities may include:

Work closely with Vessel Chief Engineers and other members of Polar Tankers to ensure maintenance and operational policies/procedures are carried out appropriately for all shipboard equipment
Promote a commitment to continuously improve operational and HSE performance via frequent communication with vessel personnel
Provide technical support for vessels including preventive maintenance, voyage repairs, vessel operations and dry dock activities
Be available 24/7 for vessel assistance and oversight
Develop work scope, specifications, spare part, and equipment needs for the shipyard or major projects. Oversee RFQ process and evaluation and make final recommendations
Attend and lead shipyards and major repair activities, both foreign and domestic, as the owner's representative. Ensure work is done safely, on budget, and is conducted to align with corporate and regulatory requirements
Provide input into the Reliability Asset Management Process (RAMP) Manual and other Polar Engineering Procedures; monitor day to day activities to ensure that programs and requirements are being conducted in accordance with current procedures
As required, perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and develop/implement corrective actions, and conduct after action reviews
Provide input for development of Fleet and Vessel specific Operating and Capital budgets and expenditures. Take responsibility for vessel's budget, track and report spend, immediately report any issues with operating within given budget guidelines
Through vessel visits, evaluate operations and maintenance activities. Review all maintenance and reliability performance metrics with vessel staff
Work with vessel staff to seek continual improvement opportunities in all facets of our operations, identifying causes of operational deficiencies and communicating findings to vessel personnel in a manner that will enable them to achieve improvement
Work with vendors to seek out improved maintenance or operational improvement opportunities
Track and monitor critical spare part levels, continually monitor current requirements, and need for considering other spares
Use the NS Enterprise Maintenance system for procurement, maintenance planning and record keeping
Seek opportunities for improving vessel and survey efficiencies, including using new technology or innovation
Actively participate in the Maintenance Excellence Team (MET), Safety and Environmental Management Team (SEMT), and Corrective Action Request (CAR) meetings and requirements
Use and champion the Management of Change (MOC) process to evaluate proposed changes to systems, equipment and operational or maintenance processes
Manage special engineering projects identified by Polar Engineering Manager and give support to other team members as required
Champion and lead the accomplishment of Polar Tanker Goals
Provide crew performance feedback to the Manager, Polar Engineering
Aid in the development of junior superintendent skills
Provide maintenance, technical and operational support to vessels; including producing Maintenance Bulletins as required

Basic/ Required:

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
5+ years of seagoing experience
5+ years of experience as lead shipyard superintendent for tankers
Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office
Intermediate level of proficiency using Eagle.org, ABS Nautical Systems Enterprise, or other similar Preventative Maintenance programs
Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis

Preferred:

Chief Engineer or First Assistant License (USCG)
Bachelor's degree or higher in Marine Engineering or foreign equivalent
5+ years of seagoing experience on tankers
5+ years of experience as a lead shipyard superintendent for US Flag tanker
Experience working closing with team members, overseeing and optimizing PM and SY processes and procedures, responsibility for overseeing voyage and SY repairs, vessel performance and budgets.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Eagle.org, and ABS NS5 or other PM programs
Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
