Pronoia Energy is a pioneering deep tech startup at the forefront of quantum energy storage innovation. As a lean, mission-driven team, we thrive on rapid prototyping, cross-disciplinary collaboration and solving complex engineering challenges to turn quantum physics into practical, scalable products.
Our current focus is on developing our groundbreaking room-temperature macroscopic quantum energy storage technology that promises orders of magnitude greater energy density, faster charging, and higher power delivery as well as being cheaper and safer compared to existing battery technology. This represents a paradigm shift in energy storage with applications spanning consumer electronics, electric vehicles, renewable grids, and beyond.
Role Overview:
For this role, we are seeking a relentless problem-solver who thrives on multitasking and adapting with an ability to quickly turn challenges into momentum as we push from prototypes to U.S.based production.
As our Engineering Technician, you'll be the versatile backbone of our operations, wearing multiple hats to keep our development and scaling on track. This hands-on role spans IT support, lab infrastructure, facilities management, and custom fabrication. Your role will be ensuring everything runs smoothly in our high-velocity startup environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Build, maintain, and occasionally operate testbenches including performing routine maintenance and repairs on specialized lab tools and systems and creating custom cables, solder components, and machine fixtures to support R&D and prototyping needs.
Oversee day-to-day facilities operations, including workspace organization, inventory tracking, and developing safety procedures as well as compiling equipment lists, coordinating with vendors for calibrations and supplies, and prioritizing fixes to minimize downtime.
Handle networking setup, IT administration, server maintenance, data access controls, backups (on-site and off-site), and tool transitions (e.g., from SharePoint to Google Workspace to ensure seamless data flows from test setups to internal systems, including automated dumps and secure account management.
Tackle ad-hoc troubleshooting across systems, manage equipment transitions, and collaborate with the team to address bottlenecks, always with an eye toward scaling our operations efficiently.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience as an engineering technician or similar role in deep tech, manufacturing, or energy sectors
Core hands-on expertise: IT/networking (servers, data security), electronics (soldering, cabling), machining (fixture creation), and general equipment maintenance/repair.
Strong organizational skills for managing inventories, safety protocols, and multi-faceted projects in a dynamic environment.
Proven problem-solver who can diagnose issues quickly and implement fixes independently
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience automating processes or scaling lab setups
Exposure to advanced materials or hardware prototyping
Familiarity with energy tech or quantum systems
What We Offer:
Chance to help solve one of the world's biggest engineering challenges and pioneer quantum energy storage.
Competitive salary, equity in a transformative startup, and performance-based incentives.
Access to cutting-edge labs, tools, and resources in a flexible, collaborative work environment.
Comprehensive benefits: health insurance, unlimited PTO, professional development stipend, and relocation assistance if needed.
A culture of innovation where your leadership will accelerate our path to market impact.
If you're excited to tackle this real-world quantum problem and build the energy systems of the future, apply with your resume and cover letter detailing relevant projects.
