Summary
This position is responsible for a variety of intermediate to complex level technical activities. Uses advanced knowledge of engineering concepts, processes, and tools to complete and ensure compliance of various project subtasks. Gathers data, conducts tests and experiments, sets up and operates equipment, builds prototype units and testing equipment. Maintains and calibrates standards and equipment and devises new testing methods.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Sets up test equipment, monitors and measures instruments. Performs testing on breadboard circuitry, prototype units, production units, and electronic circuitry.
- Support consists of both technical bench and field set-up, deployment, retrieval and repairs, with travel to remote site areas as required.
- Builds prototype units for testing and experimentation and makes samples for further analysis.
- Conducts tests and experiments with new materials, equipment, and processes to develop data for specification call-out or to determine suitability of a material for particular applications.
- Gathers and evaluates data for validity, accuracy and completeness.
- Locates and corrects malfunctions in product and testing equipment.
- Performs post-mortem analyses to determine exact reasons for failure.
- Performs chemical processing and mechanical evaluations as applicable.
- Makes sketches and marks up drawings as needed to show changes as they occur.
- Maintains appropriate primary and secondary metrology standards, test laboratory equipment or control consoles and associated monitoring, measuring, and recording instruments.
- Drafts calibrating and operating procedures based upon comprehensive knowledge of product and testing equipment.
- Calibrates equipment, instruments, electrical/electronic standards and standards of mass, force, dimension, and other phenomena during or after maintenance, and on regularly scheduled calibration dates.
- Records laboratory notes and other details, as specified by engineering personnel.
- Supports activities identified by Management/Engineering to maintain equipment in a reliable efficient manner.
- Works with engineering to establish test techniques for new product during development and to resolve product or equipment problems, and may install, characterize and/or design equipment.
- Improves and refines existing fixtures, devices, methods, process steps or procedures, implementing changes as necessary.
- May provide technical direction and training to other technologists and hourly employees to include task or project lead duties.
You Must Have
- 4 years relevant experience or 2+ years experience in a related technical role plus 2-year technical degree of 4-year technical degree
- Some positions within this classification may require unique electrical, mechanical, chemical processing and/or electronic skills and abilities
- Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
- United States Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designtions)
We Value
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in a related role (related to testing and analysis in Analytical Chemistry).
- Experience with various aspects of quality control testing such as wet bench chemistry, LECO, Mass Spectroscopy, ICP-OES, and LAMs.
- Experience with hazardous chemicals including proper PPE and HS&E practices.
- Ability to generate accurate and precise analytical data, that may be used in formal reports or presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and responsibilities concurrently.
- Able to work independently with little to no supervision on all job responsibilities.
- Experience using MS Office Suite desktop applications, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- IT skills beyond basic MS Office skills involving Analytical Instrument software, networking, and other computer systems used.
- Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment.
