 The Cottonwood School offers dynamic homeschooling pathways for TK-12: a uniquely personalized, whole-learner approach that nurtures academic, social, and emotional achievement. The Cottonwood school is a tuition-free, public charter school serving transitional kindergarten through 12th-grade students in Alpine, Amador, El Dorado, Placer, and Sacramento Counties. Location: This position is eligible for telecommuting up to 5 days per week, with in-person presence required as needed to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Position Summary

The EL Coordinator serves as an English Learner expert for The Cottonwood School by coordinating and teaching our second language learners. The Coordinator works with theHomeschool Teacher (HST), parents, students, and all other academic staff within The Cottonwood School who support students. This may include staff from the Special Education team. The Coordinator is responsible for implementing the LCAP priorities as have been determined by the State. The Coordinator will be part of developing curriculum and direct instruction for ELD instruction via a virtual platform. The coordinator will also provide data for

follow-up SST and 504 meetings and communicate with parents, teachers, and staff regarding progress or further assessments needed. The Coordinator will lead EL support staff and may also assist general education teachers with selecting appropriate curricula and the development and implementation of appropriate strategies. The Coordinator may be asked to present at team

meetings and staff development. The Coordinator works under the direction of the Director of Instruction and the supervision of the Associate Director of Student Support.

Required Qualifications

? Two (2) years of teaching experience

? Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university

? Valid California Multiple Subject Credential with English Learner (EL) Authorization

? Must live in Northern California and be able to commute to El Dorado Hills

Preferred Qualifications

? Experience/coursework specializing in intervention

? Experience working with or supporting members of the Russian-speaking community

Duties and Responsibilities

? Develop, implement, and provide coaching for two pathways (online and print) designed to assist English Language (EL) students in meeting the English Language development requirements as prescribed by the state of California. E

? Implement a Multilingual Learner/EL curriculum aligned with the four domains of the ELPAC. E

? Research and monitor effective curricula, and Multilingual Learner/EL supports to be made available to students. E

? Communicate with parents, teachers, and staff regarding progress, taking into account

evidence from additional schoolwide assessments. E

? Lead the development of two EL community events per semester with the Literacy Coordinator. E

? Form and maintain an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)/District English

Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). This includes, but is not limited to, providing

regular meetings to meet compliance regulations for appropriately functioning ELAC /

DELAC committees. E

? Provide ongoing support for and monitoring of EL students. E

? Support the school’s youngest English Learner students in Kindergarten - 2nd grade to

enroll in the Superstar Readers Program. E

? Meet with HSTs and EL families, as needed, as a subject matter expert to provide resources, guidance, set up a reclassification plan, and monitor progress throughout the year. E

? Attend and participate in events at the school site and surrounding areas of service several times a month as needed. E

? Provide learning modules and train HSTs in their usage to deliver targeted lessons

aimed at addressing the specific language domain impeding LTELs’ reclassification. E

? Provide updates and training for staff on a regular basis for meetings. E

? Provide written communication and submissions for school newsletters. E

? Attend Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings for English Learner students in special education programs as needed. E

? Meet regularly with the Associate Director of Student Support and other school administration as needed. E

? Collaborating with the Assessment Coordinator to ensure Initial, Alternate, and Summative ELPAC testing (scheduling, setting up, staffing, training, and communication for the testing team, HSTs, and families regarding ELPAC). E

? Monitor pathways for newly enrolled students, designate after testing, and add

enrollment programs as needed. E

? Work on and update schoolwide plans for EL Master Plan, WASC, and LCAP. E

? Attend all relevant meetings and training related to ELPAC. E

? Collaborate with school staff and parents to coordinate effective learning

strategies/accommodations for students. E

? Participate in professional growth activities. E

Other Duties

? Respond to non-urgent communication within 24 school hours and urgent

communication within two school hours. E

? Attend all required virtual and in-person meetings/events as assigned. E

? Resolve escalated employee, parent, and student issues in alignment with core values

and ensuring compliance with the school’s Uniform Complaint Policy, Technology Use

Policy, and the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and

Neglect Reporting Act). E

? Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

? Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment

? Comfortable with online/virtual meeting platforms, including Google Hangouts, Zoom,

and school-selected Learning Management Systems such as Canvas and Clever, etc

? Ability to be proactive and innovative

? Knowledge of various learning modalities and educational philosophies

? Knowledge of effective strategies, curriculum, and instruction to support all

students

? Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum and educational programs

? Professional oral and written communication skills in English, including academic report

writing

? Proficiency in operating standard office equipment including a variety of software

applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook,

PowerPoint), Google (docs, sheets, forms, drives), and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom,

Google Chat, etc.)

? Ability to organize, prioritize, work under time constraints, and be flexible in an

environment of multiple tasks

? Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with diverse

stakeholders

? Must have a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and dependability

? Must be able to maintain accurate records
