We are seeking an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EiR) with deep expertise in digital health, AgeTech, and healthcare commercialization to support the National Institute on Aging (NIA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR/STTR) community.
This is a unique opportunity to directly shape the future of aging-related innovations by mentoring and guiding NIH-funded entrepreneurs as they bring new technologies to market.
Role Overview
The EiR will serve as a strategic advisor and mentor to NIA-funded startups, providing hands-on guidance in business development, commercialization, regulatory pathways, investor engagement, and product-market fit. The EiR will also support entrepreneurial training initiatives such as the NIA Startup Challenge and help connect innovators with investors and industry partners.
This is a part-time (20 hours/week) role with a base period of one year and option years for renewal. The place of performance is remote (U.S.-based), with limited travel (2–3 events per year) to major life science and healthcare investor conferences (all travel expenses covered).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic mentorship and technical guidance to NIH-funded startups in digital health and AgeTech.
- Advise on commercialization strategy, product development partnerships, and competitive positioning.
- Prepare innovators for engagements with investors, payers, regulatory agencies, and strategic partners.
- Contribute to entrepreneurial training programs, including serving as an advisor/instructor for the NIA Startup Challenge.
- Develop and deliver presentations, workshops, and educational content for the NIH innovator community.
- Leverage personal investor and industry networks to make introductions for NIH-funded companies.
- Support occasional in-person investor/partnering events (~2–3 annually, travel covered).
- Provide written reports, event summaries, and conflict of interest disclosures per program requirements.
Qualifications
Required:
- 7+ years of experience in entrepreneurship, business development, or commercialization within healthcare, digital health, or AgeTech.
- Proven track record of successfully bringing products or services to market.
- Strong network of investors, venture capitalists, or strategic partners in life sciences and healthcare.
- Deep understanding of regulatory and reimbursement pathways in healthcare.
- Excellent communication, mentorship, and networking skills.
Preferred:
- Experience mentoring startups in SBIR/STTR programs or government-funded initiatives.
- Familiarity with elder care, longevity, or AgeTech markets.
- Experience serving as an EiR, accelerator mentor, or investor advisor.
