Entry Level - Paving Laborer

Scotty's Contracting and Stone, LLC is a subsidiary of Houchens Industries and participates in an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP). 

Key Responsibilities:

• Push and pull asphalt rake to level asphalt to fine grade specifications


• Use sledgehammer to drive pins, uses pick and shovel to dig


• Hook up trailers, fastens attachments to equipment


• Performs Flagger duties, sets up traffic control, and places barrels and cones


• Smooth freshly poured asphalt, shovels asphalt, or other materials


• Perform general maintenance of equipment and tools


• Assist others as needed or directed and other duties as assigned
  

Qualifications:

• Able to work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat, and humidity


• Comfortable working at elevated heights


• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures


• Able to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and overtime as needed


• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds


• Works well independently and remains motivated without close monitoring


• Able to build and maintain positive working relationships


• Maintains a professional, friendly, and service-oriented attitude with clients, the community, and business partners


• Eager to learn, develop skills, and advance career

Physical Requirements:

• Work Environment:   Outdoor asphalt paving and highway construction setting, including occasional night work, with exposure to uneven terrain, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain.


• Proximity Hazards:  Must be alert and able to work safely near construction equipment & public traffic


• Climbing: Must have the physical capability to safely climb on and off of equipment that is greater than 6 feet off the ground on uneven terrain multiple times daily.


• Balance: Including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.


• Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.


• Hearing: Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.


• Awkward positions: Getting to and from both sitting and kneeling on the ground.


• Heavy lifting: Awkward parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
