Position Summary: The Environmental Compliance and Wastewater Service Level Professional is responsible for supporting and implementing liquid waste management, water quality management, and other environmental related programs and projects. The position supports a proactive well balanced approach of service quality, service delivery and cost management to execute related services. The position is also responsible to ensure Wawa’s compliance with all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations as assigned by the Environmental Manager. This entails independently performing assigned coordination of projects and management of environmental programs at all operating stores and those under construction to confirm compliance with environmental standards, construction specifications, and company policies and procedures. This position supports and administers environmental programs for the corporation and store associates. Manages specific vendors associated with the environmental compliance for the company. Assists the Environmental Manager with contaminated site clean-ups and other programs as required. Works cross-functionally with both internal departments and external vendors to ensure the operational readiness and environmental compliance of our operating fuel stores and non-fuel stores under construction.
Principal Duties:
- Ensure environmental programs are executed to maintain regulatory compliance in the areas of liquid waste management and onsite water management systems.
- Identify and coordinate vendor follow up to execute required work and resolve vendor issues. Responsible for developing effective processes to resolve site level issues.
- Participate in cross functional groups to develop and implement process improvements to reduce costs and improve site conditions.
- Support implementation of processes related to new corporate programs and initiatives to ensure business success from a rounded business perspective.
- Serve as department liaison, develop and perform store-level tests of new services to support/improve key equipment and site standards and develop improved equipment, building material and/or site specifications. Work cross-functionally with Store Operations and all support departments including Real Estate/Construction & Engineering, Strategic Sourcing, QA, Training and Development, Store Effectiveness, Safety, People Team, Information Technology and Marketing.
- Track and report vendor performance measures and escalate issues as needed.
- Coordinate store-level projects including equipment installations and upgrades and services performed to the site and/or building.
- Responsible for performing site level follow up on vendor services to validate service performance and to provide onsite coaching for external vendors.
- Implement improved service solutions and vendor processes.
- Manage Wastewater treatment Plant (WWTP) and Septic System Program. Manage relationship with the wastewater vendor network, oversee budgeting and vendor invoicing processes. Schedule cleaning and repair work of the wastewater systems. Coordinate with regulatory agencies and landlords to solve and handles all state inspection, required repair, maintenance, and issues with the different WWTPs.
- Work with wastewater engineer to develop an ongoing list of failing septic systems and beds to develop budgetary pricing for WWTP installation. Manage the installation of the WWTP by working with WWTP engineer to prepare plans, submission of plans to state agencies, submission of bids to contractors, construction and then commissioning of WWTP systems.
- Manage the Indoor Air Quality and Mold-Like Growth (MLG) Program. Respond to store requests for assistance when indoor air quality is affected at store level. Coordinate vendor inspections throughout chain and reports finings. Research remedial alternatives and develop a path forward to eliminate indoor air quality risks to store associates and customers.
- Maintain an understanding of all environmental regulations and compliance issues as they relate to water supply and stormwater in the states where Wawa operates.
- Assist the Engineering & Construction Department with all environmental issues for wastewater and indoor air quality. Review site layouts, designs, and site plans to identify and resolve construction field problems as they relate to environmental issues.
- Serve as a point of contact between Wawa and all State and Federal governmental agencies and approval authorities that regulate wastewaster discharge regulations.
- Participate in wastewater and indoor air quality industry and State regulatory workshops and work groups to maintain awareness of emerging regulations and best practices.
- Participate in departmental training of store managers and associates, Call Center, Central Station, and other departments in environmental compliance. Work with cross-functional partners to design and develop training materials for Store Operations.
- Support development and delivery of communications to keep the business informed of current and changing compliance regulations.

Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering preferred or related field
- 5 - 7 years’ experience in an environmental regulatory/compliance capacity.
- Ability to develop environmental compliance programs that meet or exceed Federal and State standards balanced with cost management objectives.
- Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office suite.
- A solid mechanical/construction background is a plus.
