Job Description - Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Clearsite is a leading hydrovac and vacuum-excavation partner. We recognize that we must complete our work safely and efficiently so our customers can advance theirs—that’s central to how we operate and how we build long-term client relationships. Your leadership stewards that promise across field operations, training, and continuous improvement.

Role summary

Own the EHS program across Clearsite’s service lines—air & hydrovac excavation, vacuum truck/industrial cleaning, compliant material transportation, and refinery/industrial turnarounds—ensuring every job is planned, permitted, staffed, and executed safely and in full regulatory compliance. You’ll be a visible field leader, a practical problem-solver, and a coach who elevates safety performance every day.

What you’ll deliver (key outcomes)

  • Consistent pre-task planning and JHA/JSA quality across all crews; 100% tailgate completion with documented attendance.
  • Proactive reporting culture (Good Catch/Near-Miss) with month-over-month participation gains.
  • Audit closure: corrective actions verified and closed on time; recurring issues trend down.
  • Incident reduction and strong root-cause discipline; lessons learned embedded in SOPs and training.
  • Regulatory readiness for OSHA/DOT/EPA and client requirements across hydrovac, transportation, and refinery/industrial scopes.

Core responsibilities

Field safety leadership

  • Lead site safety audits; document findings and drive timely, verified corrective actions.
  • Ensure high-quality JHAs/JSAs and conduct stand-downs/tailgates as needed.
  • Verify and/or issue required permits (Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, etc.) before work proceeds.
  • Confirm crews have and use task-appropriate PPE; maintain a field cache of routine PPE/forms.

Pre-job planning & client support

  • Partner with Operations on site walks; write site-specific safety plans tailored to hydrovac/air excavation, utility locates, refinery entry, and industrial cleaning scopes.

Incident prevention & response

  • Lead incident/near-miss investigations; produce written reports with root cause and corrective/preventive actions; chair/participate in IRT reviews.

Training, orientation & culture

  • Own New-Hire Safety Orientation; deliver/refine SOP and program training; track completions and refresher cadence.
  • Manage the Safety Committee and the Behavior-Based Safety / Good Catch / Near-Miss program to drive engagement and learning.

Equipment, systems & housekeeping

  • Maintain and inspect safety-critical gear (air monitoring, CSE tripods/winches, SCBA, fall protection); manage calibrations and records.
  • Lead the Housekeeping Program and routine audits in yards, shops, and trucks.

Compliance & documentation

  • Keep training records current; maintain SOPs and regulatory programs aligned to OSHA 1910/1926 and service-specific needs (transportation, refinery/industrial).

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree (Safety, Environmental/Industrial Hygiene, or related) and valid driver’s license.
  • 3–5 years of EHS experience supporting field operations or industrial services.
  • Working knowledge of JHA/JSA, CSE, lockout/tagout, fall protection, and incident investigation.

Preferred

  • Experience with hydrovac/air excavation, utility locates, refinery/industrial cleaning, vacuum truck operations, and DOT/EPA interfaces.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ASP/CHST/CSP), instructor credentials (e.g., OSHA 10/30).
