Job Description - Environmental Health & Safety Manager - Immediate Start

Sheakley is hiring an Environmental Health & Safety Manager for our client in Memphis, TN. Our client is one of the nation's leading manufacturing firms.

Compensation Package:

$60/HR if local

$40/HR and $600/WK perdiem if over 50 miles from Memphis

$150/Month project completion bonus

Weekly pay

Project Hours/Schedule: Hours:

Monday-Friday: 8 hour days (40/week)

Staffing Type: 1099 contract

Project Duration: 5 Months

Scope of Work: EHS oversight at a laboratory

Project approx Start: ASAP

Contractor Certification Requirements:

5 years of EHS experience

Must have EHS laboratory experience.

  1. Environmental Compliance Audit (under TN self-policing policy, maybe)
  2. Safety Compliance Audit
  3. Industrial Hygiene Evaluation (exposure & ventilation assessments)
  4. Management of Biohazardous waste
  5. PPE Assessments

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

    1. Review and assist with management of hazardous waste, ensure proper labeling at satellite and central accumulation areas, interfacing with TSDF vendor for offsite disposal, and shoring up compliance with rules related to 90-day storage of hazardous waste.
    2. Assist with changing of EHS related registrations, permits, etc. for name /ownership changes.
    3. Assist with EHS training needs assessment, gap assessment and delivery of EHS training, as needed. We should be able to provide the training content, so training content development would not be needed.
    4. Coordinate with Quest's EHS Corporate/Regional personnel to assist with implementation of Quest EHS policies and procedures
      1. Emergency Action Plan
      2. Contingency Plan & Quick Reference Guide
      3. Respiratory Protection Program
      4. SPCC plan (not yet developed, but applicable)
      5. .....
    5. Assist with the following activities by escorting consultant personnel and/or coordinating with Quest corporate EHS
      1. Environmental Compliance Audit (under TN self-policing policy, maybe)
      2. Safety Compliance Audit
      3. Industrial Hygiene Evaluation (exposure & ventilation assessments)
      4. Management of Biohazardous waste
      5. PPE Assessments
  1. Environmental Compliance audit - performed under the TN self-policing policy (maybe? We haven't fully decided about the self-policing policy)
  2. Safety Compliance Audit
  3. Industrial Hygiene Assessment
    1. Ventilation Assessment with evaluation to the requirements of ANSI Standard for Lab Ventilation and/or ACGIH ventilation standards
      1. Up to ten hoods (some are grossing stations, some are chemical fume hoods, and maybe some biosafety hoods)
    2. Employee Exposure Assessment (assume detailed report to include evaluation of work practices/ observations / recommendations for improvement)
      1. Xylene (up to ten personal air samples with appropriate field blanks)
      2. Formaldehyde (up to ten personal air samples with appropriate field blanks)

Qualifications/Education/ Experience:

5 years of work experience in manufacturing safety

Requirements

  • OSHA Regulations
  • Manufacturing safety experience such as machine guarding, hoisting lifting, and any other manufacturing safety related topics
  • Working knowledge of health and safety hazards associated with LOTO, walking and working surfaces, personal protective equipment, materials handling, and job hazard analysis.
  • Solid knowledge of EHS standards, and industry regulatory standards in construction, with the ability to communicate such standards to others.
  • Excellent public speaking abilities.
  • Energetic, ambitious, assertive, and an excellent communicator.
  • OSHA outreach training experience preferred.
  • Able to meet deadlines, and work independently without direct supervision, as well as in a team environment.
  • OSHA and regulatory safety training experience.

Skills, Specialized Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Outgoing personality, self-motivated
  • Excellent customer service, telephone, electronic, and written communication skills. Analyze and recommend improvements for safe work practices, policies, and training programs.
  • Technical experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Use of standard office equipment.
  • Organization, attention to detail, flexibility, and strong ability to multi-task interfacing with multiple client situations on any given workday.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment without direct supervision. Must embrace a team-based, initiative-driven environment.
  • Effectively work with others to build consensus and rapport
  • Work conditions are typically warehouse, clinical, manufacturing facilities, construction projects, and field conditions. May require working after hours, occasional weekends to respond to emergency or non-emergency situations
