Job Description - Environmental Investigation Specialist | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST

Job Description and Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing Environmental Professional expertise to local Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Programs.
The candidate works under the close supervision of the Environmental Program Manager (EPM) I (Supervisory), Chief of the Lead Hazard Reduction Section. The Environmental Scientist (ES) serves as a member of the Lead Hazard Reduction Section to perform a variety of responsible scientific professional office and field work. The ES supports, builds capacity of, and assesses performance of, local childhood lead poisoning prevention programs (CLPPPs) that are providing services under contract to the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch. The ES provides technical support and guidance to local program staff who are conducting environmental investigations. Using established methodologies and protocols, provides technical assistance and direction to local programs and the public with regard to identifying and remediating lead hazards that are contributing to children’s elevated blood lead levels. This position involves up to 60% travel with possible overnight stay(s). Position will travel regularly to Redding to perform the Environmental Specialist duties.
License Requirements:
Certification by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) as a Lead-Related Construction Inspector/Assessor, or ability to become certified within 12 months, required.
A valid Driver License is required.
