Job Description - Environmental Services Float Technician

The Environmental Services Float Technician is a full-time position responsible for maintaining cleanliness and appearance of facility floors and providing scheduled coverage for Environmental Services staff as needed. This role primarily supports night floor care operations while also serving as a flexible resource to cover planned absences such as vacations and approved time off. The position supports patient safety, infection prevention, and the overall effectiveness of the Environmental Services Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Performs routine and detailed cleaning and maintenance of all facility floors, including laminate, tile, concrete, brick, and carpeted surfaces, with an emphasis on high-traffic areas such as lobbies, clinics, ED, and other assigned areas.

Performs restorative and preventive floor care tasks on highly soiled or worn surfaces, including use of specialized floor equipment.

Provides scheduled coverage for Environmental Services staff during planned absences (vacation, approved time off, etc.) and assists with department coverage needs as assigned.

Performs general housekeeping duties as needed, including cleaning patient rooms, offices, clinical areas, restrooms, corridors, elevators, and common areas.

Utilizes appropriate chemicals, supplies, and cleaning techniques according to departmental procedures and manufacturer recommendations; replenishes supplies and notifies supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.

Observes all safety precautions, including use of wet floor signage and barriers; operates and maintains equipment safely and correctly while maintaining established quality standards.

Follows all infection control practices, including hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation precautions.

Participates in departmental continuous quality improvement activities as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and organizational performance.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS


Education & Experience



  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience or training is preferred


 


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally, is required.

  • Basic computer knowledge is required, specifically has the ability to check work email using Microsoft Office 365.

  • Ability to work independently during night shifts and adapt to changing coverage needs.


 


Scheduling Expectations



  • Full-time position with primary assignment to night shift floor care.

  • Must be flexible to adjust schedule with advance notice to provide coverage for planned staff absences across Environmental Services.

The typical noise level for the work environment is: very quiet to moderate noise.


 


Hearing requirements: ability to hear alarms on equipment, patient call and instructions.

From 5 – 6 hours per day: grasping: simple/light


From 7+ hours per day: hands; grasping: simple, light
