Job Description - Environmental Services Supervisor

Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located along the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, VA. Our community features 300 Independent Living residences, a 33-bed Skilled Nursing Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and a 34-bed Memory Support Unit.

We are seeking a full-time Environmental Services Supervisor to oversee housekeeping operations and ensure services meet established cleanliness, quality, and safety standards. Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services (EVS), this role is responsible for supervising and training housekeeping staff, promoting safe work practices, modeling service excellence, and serving as a key resource for the team.

The ideal candidate will have at least three (3) years of progressive EVS experience in a long-term care, retirement community, or hospital setting, including cleaning, floor care, and fabric care, as well as three (3) years of leadership or supervisory experience. Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, staff training, performance management, and documentation is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate EVS housekeeping operations and staff performance.
  • Conduct routine inspections, assign work, monitor quality standards, and ensure timely completion of duties.
  • Train and support EVS staff on departmental procedures, safety standards, and proper use of equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, management, residents, and visitors; relay operational updates and staff concerns to management.
  • Assist with quality assurance initiatives, reporting, compliance monitoring, and maintaining department documentation.
  • Maintain staffing schedules and provide coverage support for call-outs, shortages, special events, weekends, holidays, and on-call needs.
  • Ensure public areas, resident units, healthcare spaces, laundry rooms, and ancillary areas are clean, organized, and maintained to survey-ready standards.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure excellent service delivery and resident satisfaction.
  • Monitor inventory, equipment maintenance, and repair schedules to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, project tracking, and related departmental documentation.  

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive EVS experience in a long-term care, CCRC, or hospital setting, including cleaning, floor care, and fabric care, with at least one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience overseeing a large team.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to lead by example, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Ability to work respectfully and compassionately with older adults while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, floor care techniques, equipment operation, and safe handling of cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to use standard office equipment and software programs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and move throughout a large community for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted and exert up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance or appropriate equipment.
