SUMMARY: The primary function of the classroom teacher is to develop the student's skills, knowledge, concepts, generalizations, principles, appreciations, and attitudes that will promote the fullest possible development and assist him/her in valuing the dignity and worth of himself/herself and others. He/she provides, within the classroom, educational program for the students and may assist in other programs within Christian Children's Home of Ohio. All Academy staff are expected to focus on Quality improvement as a part of their job responsibilities, in an effort to make the Academy a safe and healing environment for clients and staff. This expectation includes, but is not limited to teamwork, improving service delivery, fulfilling department goals, and other job-specific tasks that encourage excellence. The schedule for the Envision Academy Classroom Teacher will be similar to a teacher's typical schedule. An individual in this position will work the school schedule of August - June.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: It is the responsibility of each employee to be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ and to adhere to the Standard of Moral Conduct and Statement of Faith. Job-specific essential functions include the following:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Classroom activities and students.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must maintain proper certification in his/her teaching area, hold a Bachelor's Degree from accredited institution. Classroom experience strongly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education documents such as transcripts, IEP's, and testing requirements. Ability to write, evaluate and teach curriculum. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Working understanding of education terminology and necessary requirements to fulfill specific education duties.
COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have ability to use a computer, familiarity with Outlook and Word, Excel.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Active Ohio Teaching License required.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk and hear, including requirement to stand or walk for extended periods of time, often through uneven terrain. The employee is occasionally required to stand, use hands/fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to be outdoors in various weather conditions for extended amounts of time. The ability to cope with and tolerate high levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to maintain compliance/certification with CCHO's requirements for using physical restraints (SCM: Safe Crisis Management) including sufficient strength and completion of extensive training. Physical ability to respond to crisis, including, but not limited to running and performing physical restraints.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise in the environment is varied, often loud and chaotic.
Candidates must be 21 or older to apply. References, background checks and drug screenings will be completed on all potential candidates. Must have valid Ohio Driver's License and maintain a driving record that allows that individual to be insurable. EOE.
This position is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of all of the following: background checks (fingerprints required), drug test, reference checks, Department of Justice National sex offender search, Ohio (and other states of residence) Alleged Perpetrator Search, as well as other checks as required by our licensing agency.

Direct care positions will require a pre-employment physical, as required by our licensing agency. Must be able to commute reliably for all on-site positions.
