Colby Community College invites applications for a full-time Head Equestrian Coach. The selected individual will be responsible for recruiting, coaching, and mentoring student-athletes to uphold and advance the competitive standards of the Colby Community College Equestrian Team. The Head Coach will identify and recruit qualified students in alignment with the College’s standards and expectations. Recruitment efforts are ongoing throughout the calendar year.
This is a twelve-month, non-faculty, non-instructional position, with a minimum workload of 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend commitments, including in-state and out-of-state travel for practices and competitions, are required. Candidates must demonstrate exceptional communication skills and possess substantial knowledge and experience with equestrian competitions and horse show management.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with daily care and management of horses and facilities at the CCC Equine Unit; additional barn duties assigned as needed at the College Farm.
- Inspire, mentor, and motivate student-athletes to achieve success both in competition and personal development.
- Maintain and lead a consistent, structured team practice schedule.
- Manage and coordinate the College’s Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) program.
- Organize and host Colby Community College IHSA equestrian shows and coordinate special events.
- Participate in fundraising initiatives supporting the Equestrian Team, Agriculture Division, and the broader College community.
- Promote community engagement through student volunteerism and personal participation in service activities.
- Recruit, instruct, and retain talented student-athletes committed to competing at a high level.
- Represent the program and participate in College-wide, Agriculture Division, Ag Sports, and community events.
- Serve on institutional committees as assigned.
- Travel with student-athletes for practices and competitions as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in equestrian competition and horse show participation.
- Previous coaching experience is preferred.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
$43,200 – $51,400 annually

Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas, approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of 99 students in 1964, CCC now serves more than 2,400 students annually.
