About the Role
As an Equine Assistant with the Therapy & Adaptive Riding Program you’ll help create meaningful experiences for individuals with disabilities through equine-assisted services. You’ll work alongside therapists, certified staff, and the Equine team to support clients during lessons while also helping care for the horses that make these experiences possible.
This is an active, hands-on role that combines working with people, working with horses, and helping with the day-to-day responsibilities of an equine program. From preparing horses and assisting riders to feeding, grooming, and completing daily chores, you’ll play an important role in helping both clients and horses have a positive and safe experience.
What You’ll Do
Your responsibilities may include:
Prepare horses for lessons
Assist riders with mounting
Lead horses during sessions
Assist with leading lessons under the direction of certified staff
Walk or run alongside horses to support clients as needed
Assist with feeding and grooming horses
Help plan camp activities, non-mounted crafts, and games
Help maintain clean and organized program spaces
Assist with daily chores and general horse care
Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule
Part-time, year round
Anticipated schedule is Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2pm - 5:15pm
Schedule may vary based on lessons, programming, and client needs
Weekend feeding responsibilities may be required

What You’ll Bring to the Table
Must be able to pass the required organizational background study
Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is required
Horse and riding experience is preferred
Strong communication skills
Good time management skills
Ability to support individuals who may display physical aggression or challenging behaviors
Ability to work effectively in an active, hands-on environment
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This is a highly active position involving work with both clients and horses in indoor and outdoor environments. Equine Assistants should be prepared to:
Work both indoors and outdoors
Walk or run approximately 8–14 miles per day on various terrain alongside a horse
Lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
Sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and move continually throughout the workday
Hear and communicate verbally
Use hands and fingers to operate tools and controls
Work in positions that may require additional balance or physical awareness
Support individuals who may display physical aggression or challenging behaviors
Participate in weekend feeding responsibilities as scheduled
Specific physical demands and environmental conditions may vary based on programming and assignment.
