Job Description - Equipment Manager

Job Summary:
The Equipment Manager is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and operational readiness of all transportation equipment, including tractors, trailers, and specialty units. This position ensures equipment availability, and regulatory compliance while working closely with the Terminal Manager and various departments including operations, maintenance, and safety.

  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct yard checks to assess equipment condition and availability across terminal locations.
  • Coordinate and track maintenance, service schedules, and repairs for all company-owned and leased equipment.
  • Maintain and regularly update equipment inventories, including active, inactive, and Out-of-Service (OOS) units.
  • Oversee trailer prep inspections and ensure readiness for operations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for drivers regarding equipment issues, PPE replacements, and repair needs.
  • Liaise with the Shop, Wash Rack, and external vendors to ensure efficient communication and task follow-through.
  • Maintain and order require safety equipment and PPE for drivers.
  • Monitor and ensure DOT compliance for all equipment.
  • Support transload and yard operations as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and cost-efficiency.
  • Provide weekly reports to the Terminal Manager on equipment status and repair updates, 
  • Perform other duties related to equipment support as assigned by the Terminal Manager.

Requirements

  

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications in diesel tech, fleet management, or related fields preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in equipment management, fleet operations, or transportation logistics.
  • Strong      knowledge of tractor/trailer systems, preventative maintenance, and basic repairs.
  • Familiarity with DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with drivers, technicians, and managers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and equipment tracking software.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, yard-based environment.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
