Job Description - Equipment Mechanic Assistant

Description

Teller County's Fleet Services Department is seeking a full-time Equipment Mechanic Assistant to observe and assist mechanics in performing routine maintenance and repairs of vehicles and equipment and perform general labor as directed. 

What You'll Do: 

(1) Observes and assists mechanics with routine and complex maintenance and repair of County vehicles and equipment.

(2) Under general supervision, perform routine maintenance of County vehicles and equipment to include but not limited to: change wiper blades, bulbs, tires, decals and other minor maintenance and repair jobs.

(3) Responsible for delivering and picking up parts, equipment and supplies as needed.

(4) Detail vehicles to include but not limited to washing, buffing, waxing, and cleaning interiors.

(5) Monitor and perform housekeeping duties at the shop to include but not limited to sweeping, pick up and removal of trash and debris, returning tools to proper location.

(6) Assists with vehicle auctions to include cleaning and preparing vehicles for sale.

(7) Responsible for cleaning wash bay and maintaining vehicle wash equipment.

Requirements

What You'll Bring:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

You Also Have These Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of: Basic mechanic tools; general understanding of vehicle parts and operation; basic safety principles in a shop environment.

Skilled in: organization; planning and estimating jobs within the scope of assigned duties and responsibilities; time management; attention to detail; pride in workmanship.

Ability to: demonstrate mechanical aptitude; read instruction manuals for equipment; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; semi-independently analyze, prioritize and make decisions; coordinate and prioritize a variety of daily work requests; meet established deadlines; learn and safely use a variety of equipment including, but not limited to, forklift, vehicle lifting equipment, basic vehicle electrical test equipment, pressure washers, welding equipment, tire machines, fleet management software, and any other basic fleet related tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers; perform all work and functions in a safe, conscientious manner.

Additional Details About the Role:

Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to write and read; able to hear and see to inspect mechanical equipment.

Physical Effort/Dexterity: Manual dexterity; ability to lift and carry 50 pounds; ability to use tools; ability to drive a car as well as various equipment; must be able to do moderate to heavy manual labor.

Environmental Factors: Work is generally performed indoors but may require exposure to adverse conditions including, but not limited to, dirt, noise and extreme weather conditions; working around moving machinery/heavy equipment; slippery and uneven walking surfaces; possible exposure to noxious fumes.

Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week; on call as needed for emergency situations.

License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license; must possess NIMS certification 100, 700 and 800; must complete CPR/First Aid as scheduled and annually.

Additional Requirements: Must be able to work in Inclement weather, shifts require early mornings and possible 12-hour shifts. Will be exposed to cold weather and extreme cold weather at times.

  

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $23.23 - $24.39 / hour

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
