SUMMARY

Under general supervision operates a vactor/jetter truck in the basic cleaning and maintenance of storm sewer pipes, manholes, inlets, etc.  May on occasion operate other trucks, 24,000 to 52,000 GVW, and other equipment as required.  Services and makes minor repairs to equipment and may, on occasion, be required to perform manual unskilled labor.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates and maintains a vactor/jetter truck, used to clean and remove debris from storm sewer pipes, manholes, inlets, etc.

  • Regularly supervises one utility worker, but may oversee work of small 3-4 person crew. 

  • Enters confined spaces when necessary, to remove large debris, inspect piping system, perform general maintenance to storm sewer drainage system, etc.

  • Repairs storm sewer pipes.

  • Inspects jobs for supervisor as assigned.

  • Operates other trucks, 24,000 to 52,000 GVW, and other equipment as required.

  • Performs minor repair and maintenance to equipment, and makes periodic checks on all vital working areas.

  • Sets out cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices to provide a safe work zone.

  • Properly completes daily job reports.

  • Performs manual work when necessary to assist in the performance of various tasks.

  • This position is subject to 24 hour emergency call out and may be required to carry a cellular phone on a rotational shift arrangement.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from high school or GED required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in operating light and medium equipment and trucks preferred. Experience with confined space safety regulations, procedures, and safety equipment desirable. Completion of 16 hours training in traffic and barricading procedures during probationary year. Completion of 16 hours training in confined space entry and recovery safety procedures during probationary year. Valid Texas Class “A” CDL Driver’s License is required. Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Good working knowledge of vactor/jetter truck.

  • Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Must have working knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications.

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate medium sized trucks (12 cubic yard), backhoe, and other similar equipment used in the general cleaning and maintenance of storm sewer drainage system.

  • Must have working knowledge of all hand tools, both manual and power driven.

  • Ability to work in possible hazardous conditions, confined spaces, stressful emergency situations, and integrate well with co-workers.

The employee works in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others. This position is considered weather essential personnel.
