About Hebrew Public

Hebrew Public is a small and growing network of schools operated by Hebrew Public: Charter Schools for Global Citizens. Hebrew Public is a secular organization that welcomes candidates of all backgrounds into a supportive and inclusive community.

Across the network, Hebrew Public schools serve children from all backgrounds and help students become global citizens who are strong problem solvers, aware communicators, and lifelong learners committed to making a positive difference in the world around them. Our schools are models of racial and economic integration, academic excellence, and world language learning.

Why PHP?

As part of Hebrew Public, Philadelphia Hebrew Public teachers and staff have the opportunity to bring that mission to life with students from over 37 zip codes across Philadelphia, primarily Black and Brown students whose brilliance, curiosity, and potential drive our work every day.

PHP is rooted in the belief that all students deserve rigorous academics, strong relationships, and access to a globally minded education that expands what they see as possible for themselves. For educators who want their work to matter beyond the classroom walls, PHP offers a place to help close opportunity gaps while nurturing students academically, socially, and culturally.

You don’t need to speak Hebrew to apply, and we strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups to join our community.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and student-centered ESL Teacher to support multilingual learners in building the academic language, confidence, and skills they need to thrive across content areas. This teacher will provide targeted language instruction, collaborate with classroom teachers, monitor student progress, and help ensure multilingual learners have meaningful access to rigorous grade-level instruction.

The ESL Teacher will also support required language proficiency processes, including conducting WIDA testing, maintaining accurate records, and tracking the progress of students who have exited ESL services. The ideal candidate brings strong language-development expertise, excellent collaboration skills, and a deep belief in the brilliance, voice, and potential of multilingual learners.

What You’ll Do

Language Instruction & Student Support

  • Deliver targeted ESL instruction that supports students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing development

  • Help multilingual learners access grade-level content through language scaffolds, vocabulary development, and academic discourse

  • Provide push-in, pull-out, small-group, or individualized support based on student needs and service models

  • Differentiate instruction for multilingual learners at varying proficiency levels

  • Support students in building confidence, independence, and ownership as multilingual communicators and learners

WIDA Testing, Compliance & Progress Monitoring

  • Conduct required WIDA ACCESS testing and related language proficiency assessments

  • Maintain accurate records related to language proficiency, services, progress monitoring, and compliance

  • Monitor multilingual learners’ progress toward English language proficiency goals

  • Track the progress of students who have exited ESL services to ensure continued academic success

  • Use student data to adjust services, recommend supports, and communicate progress with families and staff

Collaboration & Instructional Support

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan language supports, scaffolds, and instructional strategies

  • Partner with special education, intervention, multilingual learner, and leadership teams to support student success

  • Support teachers in understanding language proficiency data and its implications for instruction

  • Contribute to systems that ensure multilingual learners are supported across classrooms and content areas

Family Communication & School Community

  • Build strong, proactive relationships with multilingual learners and their families

  • Communicate with families about student progress, strengths, and language-development needs

  • Help create an inclusive school culture that values students’ home languages, cultures, identities, and experiences

  • Contribute to a positive school culture rooted in care, accountability, and shared responsibility

Professional Responsibilities

  • Model Hebrew Public’s OLAM values: outstanding problem solving, continuous learning, making a difference, and intentional communication

  • Participate in intellectual preparation, coaching cycles, classroom observations, and feedback conversations

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and actively seek feedback to improve practice

  • Align your work with school-wide priorities and strategic initiatives

Who You Are

  • Deep belief in the limitless potential of multilingual learners and commitment to helping them thrive as global citizens

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required

  • Valid Pennsylvania base teaching certification and a Pennsylvania ESL Program Specialist certification required, or active progress toward certification

  • Experience supporting multilingual learners in urban school communities preferred

  • Experience conducting WIDA ACCESS testing or similar language proficiency assessments preferred

  • Strong understanding of English language development, academic language, scaffolding, and culturally responsive instruction

  • Ability to use language proficiency data and student work to adjust instruction, monitor progress, and support growth

Career Development and Support

At PHP, teachers are not expected to grow alone. We invest in educator development through:

  • On-site team of Climate staff and Social Workers to support students and families

  • Instructional coaching and feedback cycles

  • Intellectual preparation and collaborative planning

  • Professional development opportunities
