Estimator

Position Summary:

As an Estimator, you will play a key role in providing accurate and detailed cost estimates for various stages of manufacturing parts and assemblies. You will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, procurement, and other stakeholders to develop estimates that align with project requirements and budgetary constraints. Your analytical skills and industry knowledge will be essential in ensuring the financial viability and success of our aerospace initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as a liaison between internal and external customers, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project requirements.

• Analyze technical drawings and specifications provided in Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to determine labor, material, and process hours for parts, assemblies, and tooling.

• Produce accurate cost estimates from RFQ receipt through final submission to the sales team, considering all relevant factors and variables.

• Collaborate with the Procurement department to obtain quotes from external suppliers for parts, materials, hardware, and outside processing.

• Maintain a comprehensive historical cost database to improve the accuracy of future bids and estimates.

• Work with internal subject matter experts to gather input on jobs being estimated.

• Evaluate and document risks associated with RFQs or quotations, including internal capabilities, delivery timelines, material availability, and outside processing requirements.

• Plan, budget, oversee, and document all aspects of specific projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints.

• Obtain blueprints and order support materials from suppliers and engineers as needed.

• Provide oversight, scope, and direction for each project to ensure it remains on schedule and meets project requirements.

• Experience in quoting and estimating, with a strong understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, fabrication, and assembly.

• Knowledge of and experience with aerospace raw materials, hardware, and metals processing (e.g., surface finishing).

• Proven experience in estimating or cost engineering for aerospace parts and assemblies, including material costs, labor hours, machining time, assembly time, and other manufacturing-related expenses.

• Ability to analyze and interpret aerospace engineering drawings and related documents such as parts lists/BOMs, specifications, and electronic CAD models.

• Familiarity with products such as electrical wiring and cables, wire harnesses, and electrical controls and assemblies is a plus.

• Proficiency in cost estimation methodologies, tools, and ERP systems such as JobBOSS or similar, Microsoft Office products, and CAD/CAM software such as CATIA and ENOVIA.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines with strong time management skills.

• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards applicable to aerospace projects is a plus.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (internal and external customers, suppliers, etc.).

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in all calculations and estimates.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience in Aerospace Manufacturing related to Cost Estimating, Manufacturing, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Procurement.
