Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation: Assist in preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for various aspects of construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Bid Preparation: Help create comprehensive bid proposals by analyzing project specifications, blueprints, and other related documents. Ensure that bids are submitted on time and reflect all necessary project details.
- Quantity Takeoff: Perform quantity takeoffs from project plans and specifications to estimate material and labor requirements accurately.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing, availability, and other project-related information. Maintain a list of potential vendors and subcontractors to support the bidding process.
- Cost Analysis: Review and analyze historical cost data to ensure that estimates are based on current market conditions and reflect the latest trends in material and labor costs.
- Value Engineering: Assist senior estimators in identifying opportunities for cost-saving measures, such as alternative materials, methods, or design solutions that can provide better value without compromising project quality.
- Documentation: Ensure that all estimates, reports, and documentation are properly filed, updated, and stored in the company’s estimating system for future reference.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks related to the cost and schedule of projects and work with senior estimators to develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the project management, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure that estimates align with the overall project scope and objectives.
- Reporting: Assist in providing regular updates to senior management regarding project bids, estimates, and any changes in project scope or costs.
- Site Visits: Participate in site visits to assess existing conditions and gather information to refine estimates.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in construction estimation or a related role, preferably in the water/wastewater treatment, pump stations, or civil construction sectors.
- Basic knowledge of construction processes, materials, and methods, particularly within water/wastewater treatment and civil construction projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, HCSS, or similar tools) is a plus.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and other technical documents.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: Associate Estimator certification (AACE, AIA, or similar) is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of local construction codes and regulations, particularly in the water/wastewater industry.
- Technical Proficiency: Exposure to project management or estimating software tools is highly desirable.
