Job Description - ETO Instrumentation engineer

The Controls \u0026 Instrumentation Engineer plays a key role in supporting the Engineering Lead and Product Engineering Manager in the delivery of Hyperscale Data Center Modules. This role is accountable for the electrical scope and control systems throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, including design, construction, manufacturing, testing, installation, and commissioning.\n\nThe engineer ensures that all electrical and instrumentation systems meet customer requirements and comply with industrial standards. Additionally, they provide critical support during the manufacturing stage and assist stakeholders in resolving site installation and commissioning challenges.\n\nThe Engineer will contribute to the achievement of organizational goals and initiatives as defined by the management team. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:\n\n * Reviewing and approving drawings, documentation, and technical information to ensure compliance with industrial standards, enabling efficient production of Data Center Infrastructure Modules across manufacturing and supporting departments.\n * Participating in and initiating design and development planning and review sessions to align with customer requirements and industry standards.\n * Preparing Technical Requisitions (TRs) for electrical systems, instrumentation systems, and various components.\n * Evaluating vendor quotations, conducting comprehensive technical bid analyses, and providing feedback to the procurement team regarding proposal compliance and gaps related to project specifications.\n * Developing and finalizing engineering deliverables for controls and instrumentation, including instrument lists/indexes, data sheets, control system architecture diagrams, alarm schedules, and specifications for safety and control instruments.\n * Reviewing P\u0026IDs, IOM procedures, start-up procedures, and control/shutdown philosophies to ensure smooth Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and operational readiness of data centers.\n * Ensuring major equipment purchases are accurately specified and integrated seamlessly into the overall system.\n * Creating control narratives and philosophies.\n * Troubleshooting control system and instrumentation issues during data center start-up and commissioning.\n * Performing ladder logic programming (as needed), sizing of control valves, relief valves, and flow elements, and training team members on these processes.\n * Recommending optimal control systems, valves, level instruments, and flow instruments for specific applications.\n * Participating in internal and client HAZOP sessions.\n * Assisting with hookup detail development for I\u0026E contractors during instrumentation installation.\n * Reviewing and approving subcontractor scopes for field instrumentation and electrical hookups, ensuring alignment with client specifications.\n * Preparing bulk Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs).\n * Applying innovative thinking to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality, schedule, or performance.\n * Staying informed of emerging technologies and industry developments to recommend updates to programs and applications.\n * Independently interpreting, organizing, and executing assignments with minimal supervision.\n * Making autonomous decisions on technical challenges and representing the organization in meetings to resolve critical issues.\n * Leveraging advanced technical expertise and experience to address complex or unique engineering challenges.\n * Operating under broad objectives with administrative-level supervision.\n * Keeping current with advancements in electrical engineering and data center technologies and recommending improvements to enhance product reliability and efficiency.\n * Representing the company in customer meetings, serving as the primary point of contact for client inquiries and concerns.\n * Providing technical support during construction, responding to RFIs, and resolving field issues.\n * Attending site visits, project meetings, and commissioning activities as required.\n\n\n\nEducation:\n\n * Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering from a recognized university.\n * Professional Engineering License (Strongly Preferred)\n\n\n\nExperience:\n\n * A minimum of 7 years\u2019 experience in controls and instrument design and engineering, with a focus on data center infrastructure.\n * Ability to produce drawings/sketches to illustrate design/ideas.\n * General knowledge and direct experience with the construction, operation, and maintenance of data center or building electrical systems.\n * Experience with high-density data centers and hyperscale environments\n * Understands the purpose of control systems for data center facility modules.\n * Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including but not limited to:\n\n\n * * API \u2013 American Petroleum Institute\n * ASME \u2013 American Society of Mechanical Engineers\n * ANSI \u2013 American National Standards Institute\n * IEC \u2013 International Electrotechnical Commission\n * IBC \u2013 International Building Code\n * ISA \u2013 International Society of Automation\n * OSHA \u2013 Occupational Safety and Health Administration\n * NEC \u2013 National Electric Code\n * NFPA \u2013 National Fire Protection Association\n\n\n * Experience working with computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software.\n * Fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects\n * Ability to review P\u0026IDs and related control systems for complex process equipment.\n * Working knowledge of control valves, relief valves, and flow measurement devices.\n * Working knowledge of ISA guidelines and symbols for instrumentation.\n * Working knowledge of API and ANSI guidelines.\n * Ability to offer alternate instruments or valves from perspectives of cost, space, schedule, operation, and maintenance.\n * Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design within data center driving or affecting electrical scope.\n * Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from code and ultimately achieving design approval and permitting.\n * Mastery knowledge and proficiency in:\n\n\n * * Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)\n * PDF Editor (Adobe, Foxit, or other equivalent)\n\n\n * Operational knowledge in:\n\n\n * * SAP (ERP Tool w/ Engineering Modules and Transactions)\n * Solid Works\n * Autodesk Revit\n * Autodesk BIM 360\n * Autodesk AutoCAD\n * Navisworks Manager / Freedom\n\n\n * Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving challenges.\n * Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently in dynamic, fast-paced environments.\n * Highly adaptable to shifting priorities and capable of seamless task switching.\n * Strong interpersonal skills with a talent for building and sustaining client relationships.\n * Innovative thinker focused on enhancing client satisfaction and delivering top-quality results.\n * Committed to excellence with a strong work ethic and keen attention to detail.\n * Fluent in English, with advanced proficiency in both written and verbal communication.\n * Clear and effective communicator, able to articulate complex concepts in both individual and group settings.\n * Collaborative team player with experience working across cross-functional teams.\n * Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.\n\n\n
