Job Description - Evaluation Manager

Description

Evaluation Manager (EM) (Full-time, 40 hours) Exempt 

BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side. Since 1969, BUILD has worked to save lives and mentor young people who live in the city’s most challenged neighborhoods. The Evaluation Manager will lead our efforts to define and measure program outcomes, facilitate a continuous quality improvement (CQI) process, and communicate evaluation results to help BUILD understand the quality and impact of our services. The Evaluation Manager will report directly to the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL).

Establishing and improving program outcome metrics and data collection tools and processes (approx. 40%)

  • Work collaboratively with program leadership to articulate and refine BUILD’s Service Impact Model, including outcome metrics
  • Oversee efforts to develop and improve outcome metrics and high-quality data collection tools and processes to maximize utility and accessibility 
  • Oversee outcomes data collection training, communication, and support for staff
  • Provide guidance to development staff on outcome metrics for funding proposals and renewals

Producing data stories to communicate evaluation results (approx. 20%)

  • Collaboratively develop data stories using multiple sources to communicate impact to internal and external stakeholders
  • Analyze data for insights, use software to create data visuals, and develop narrative context
  • Facilitate discussions with program leadership and staff to make use of evaluation results

Facilitating continuous quality improvement efforts with leadership and external partners to use and improve evaluation results (approx. 30%)

  • Support with documenting and synthesizing program logic models containing resources, outputs, and outcomes
  • Review and draw from external research and best practices literature to inform program implementation and evaluation 
  • Work collaboratively with BUILD leadership to interpret and apply evaluation results to decision-making processes
  • Actively participate in external evaluation partnerships to grow BUILD’s evidence basis of impact and our role as leading community-based nonprofit evaluators in Chicago

Working collaboratively with other MEL staff to complete other duties as assigned (approx. 10%)

Requirements

Education and work experience

  • Master’s degree required in a relevant social science-related discipline, such as Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, or Nonprofit Management
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing data collection, analysis, and/or reporting required
  • Supervision experience required
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and/or visualizing data in a youth-serving nonprofit organization preferred

Skills and abilities

  • Proficiency in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and identifying insights in both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing evaluation plans, and problem-solving as issues arise
  • Proficiency in developing logic models and theories of change
  • Proficiency in using data analysis and visualization software such as Excel, R, and Power BI
  • Able to build supportive, motivating, learning-focused supervision relationships with full-time staff
  • Able to build collaborative working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including program staff and leadership
  • Able to independently prioritize work and monitor progress toward goals
  • Expertise in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
  • Passionate about leveraging data in pursuit of BUILD’s mission and core values 
  • Able to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check
