About The Second Step
Based in Newton, MA, The Second Step provides free, trauma-informed services for survivors of domestic violence throughout Greater Boston and beyond. We are dedicated to ending the cycle of abuse with our wraparound support, including safety planning, legal services, counseling, housing stabilization, support groups, and community education. These services help survivors heal and thrive while raising awareness to prevent abuse and build healthier communities.
Hours
Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday through Friday. The Events and Development Officer is eligible to work a hybrid schedule. This is an exempt position. Occasional evening and weekend work when necessary. Work will be based out of The Second Step’s administrative office located in Newton, MA. After 90 days of satisfactory performance, candidate is eligible for hybrid work consistent with agency policy.

Primary Objectives
The Events and Development Officer is a key member of the Development team responsible for managing events and development operations to meet annual fundraising goals. Working closely with the Chief Development Officer, the Events and Development Officer implements fundraising initiatives and contributes to planning and decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Events and Development Officer works as part of a collaborative and dedicated Development Team with a goal of raising $1.4 million annually from individual, corporate, and foundation partners. This position is responsible for managing and executing fundraising events, maintaining accurate development systems, including donor database operations (Salesforce), and coordinating the production and distribution of fundraising appeals and printed assets. The Events and Development Officer also supports corporate and foundation partnerships by securing sponsorships, developing grant proposals, preparing reports, and participating in funder site visits.

Compensation and Benefits:
TSS offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
