The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a non-profit voluntary health organization, is seeking an Executive Vice President of Advocacy. The position serves on the Society’s Senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer. The successful candidate must possess outstanding leadership skills, with the demonstrated ability to inspire others and a strong commitment to the Society’s mission. The position requires a strong collaborator and relationship builder and an individual who empowers others to meet the challenges of MS and serve the critical needs of people affected by multiple sclerosis.
The EVP provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Society’s public policy and advocacy objectives. It is essential to collaborate closely with others to identify the strategic direction for the Society and advance our public policy agenda with Congress, state legislatures and regulatory agencies. It is critical to create and maintain strong relationships, and communicate effectively with a wide range of constituents, both internal and external. The EVP leads in the development of the Society’s strategic plan in the advocacy area and provides input and support into the Society’s long-range objectives. The individual oversees the advocacy staff, which currently numbers 8 professionals; recruit, develop and support volunteer leaders; and oversee the departmental plan and budget, which is approximately $2 million.
