Rainier Valley Leadership Academy (RVLA), a public charter school serving grades K–12 in Southeast Seattle, is seeking a values-driven and visionary Executive Director to lead our school’s academic and cultural direction. This role focuses on governance, instructional leadership, student culture, and strategic growth—building a strong foundation for long-term student and staff success.
The Executive Director is the top leader of the school and will guide RVLA’s vision, support high-quality teaching and learning, foster a strong and supportive student culture, and serve as a trusted steward of the school’s mission with families, staff, and the broader community. This position works closely with the board of directors and leads the school’s academic priorities and student experience from a big-picture and day-to-day perspective.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clear, mission-aligned leadership for the school’s vision, academic direction, and student culture
Supervise and support instructional staff, ensuring effective teaching and strong academic outcomes across grade levels
Build a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment rooted in high expectations and strong student behavior systems
Serve as a thought partner and advisor to the board of directors, ensuring accountability to charter goals and school priorities
Collaborate with instructional and student support leaders to strengthen teaching practices, data use, and student services
Develop strong relationships with students, families, and community partners to reinforce a positive and inclusive school culture
Represent the school publicly and champion its mission, story, and outcomes with stakeholders
Meet the annual development goals through fundraising and grant writing
Who You Are:
A committed educational leader with a passion for student learning, academic integrity, and high expectations
Experienced in school-based leadership with a strong instructional background
Grounded in the belief that all students can thrive with the right support, structure, and adult leadership
Skilled in mentoring staff, leading student behavior systems, and aligning school practices to a clear academic vision
Able to navigate governance spaces, engage with a board of directors, and ensure mission alignment across all school functions
Strong fundraising and grant writing skills
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in education or related field required
Valid Washington State Principal Certification (or transferable out-of-state equivalent)
Minimum 5 years of school leadership experience, including experience supervising teachers or instructional teams
Strong track record of improving student outcomes and strengthening school culture
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
