Position Description

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Pony Of the Americas Club, Inc. (POAC) Mission Statement:

To promote the POAC as an equine breed organization dedicated to the breeding, promotion, education, and welfare of the POA as “The Versatile Family Equine”

To record and preserve the pedigree information of the Pony Of the Americas Club, Inc. while maintaining the integrity of the breed

To provide beneficial programs and events for its members that enhance and encourage POA ownership and participation

To generate growth of POAC membership via the marketing, promotion, advertising, and publicity of POAs

To ensure that POAs are treated humanely, with dignity, respect, and compassion at all times

POSITION

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the POAC office, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission

The Executive Director initially will develop knowledge of POAs, the horse industry, and the POAC’s core programs and operations

Leadership and Management:

Ensures ongoing program excellence, program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, and communications; recommends timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals

Actively engages and energizes POAC’s volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders

Develops, maintains, and supports a strong Board of Directors; seeks and builds Board involvement with the organization’s strategic direction

Leads, coaches, develops, and retains POAC’s office staff and oversees all activities of the POAC National Office

Ensures effective systems to track progress to goals, and regularly evaluates program components, in order to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, our members, and other constituents

Manages national events including the POAC National Congress, POAC International Futurity, and POAC

National Convention o Ensures profitability to support the financial stability and programs of the POAC

Oversees management of other nationally sponsored shows, including the East World and West World o Ensures profitability to support the financial stability and programs of the POAC

Oversees the eligibility of all ponies for registration in the POAC. In the event of disputes as to the Executive

Director’s decision on any pony, the matter will be referred to the Board for final decision.

Oversees the design/creation of all necessary forms and documents to be used in connection with the business of the National POAC

Enters into contracts on behalf of the National POAC with approval of the Executive Committee

Carries out all instructions of the Board of Directors

Attends the annual meeting of the membership of the National POAC

Attends all meetings of the POAC Board of Directors, if possible, and reports to the Board on all matters of importance to the National POAC

Fundraising and Communications:

Maintains open and honest communication with the Board of Directors, national committee members, staff, and POAC membership

Deepens and refines all aspects of communications, from web and social media presence to strengthening external relationships, with the goal of creating a stronger brand

Expands national and regional fundraising and revenue-generating activities to support program operations and regional expansion

Serves as the managing editor of the annual year-end magazine published by the POAC and oversees other publications of the National POAC

Represents the National POAC and works with the recognized breed associations and other organizations in the best interests of the National POAC o Uses external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities

Works with the Board Treasurer to submit financial reports of the National POAC to the Board of Directors at each of their meetings, and submits the current financial report of the POAC to the members at the annual meeting

Planning and Growth:

Works with the Board of Directors to complete the strategic business planning process for the promotion and growth of the POA breed

Builds partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with funders and community leaders

Serves as a representative of the POAC to communicate program results with an emphasis on the successes of the POA breed at both the regional and national level

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Equine Sciences, Marketing, Business, or another relevant field

Management experience and the ability to effectively lead an organization and staff o Ability to effectively manage relationships, delegate, and coach staff as needed o Ability to set and achieve strategic objectives

Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide variety of stakeholders o Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people; values diversity of thought, background, and perspectives

Strong written and verbal communications skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills

Strong financial understanding of tracking expenses, budgeting, and generating effective financial reports

Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail

Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with QuickBooks a plus.

Past success working with a Board of Directors and the ability to cultivate existing Board relationships

Experience with operational strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth is a plus

Innovative approach to business planning, action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year

Schedule:

Monday to Friday

Weekends as needed

Ability to Commute:

Indianapolis, IN 46203 (Required)

Willingness to travel:

25% (Preferred)

Work Location: In person
