About the Role The Executive Director of Psychiatry is a key leadership role responsible for the overall administration of the department. This includes setting the department's vision, mission, goals, and objectives in partnership with the Chair, and overseeing all aspects of clinical operations, finance and budget, human resources, credentialing and staffing, research administration, space allocation, education and training, and general administration. The ED serves as the primary point of contact for administrative matters, provides direction and support to staff, and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations. They also lead the department's research administration infrastructure, maintain strong financial management, and oversee faculty and training programs. The role requires outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, as well as the ability to independently resolve complex problems and maintain a professional, inclusive environment.Candidates for the Executive Director position must have a Master's degree in a related field and at least 5-7 years of administrative/management experience, preferably in an academic medical center setting. Supervisory experience is also required. The role demands exceptional skills in delegation, supervision, and planning, as well as the ability to negotiate effectively and maintain fiscal responsibility over a large and complex department. The ED must be adept at handling a busy workload, with a significant volume of meetings and communication, and be able to work with a diverse range of individuals to foster cooperation and problem-solving. Sensitivity, discretion, and judgment in dealing with confidential matters are essential, as is the ability to mentor and manage a large team to ensure the highest level of productivity and effectiveness.
