About the Role
The Executive Director, K-12 Policy is a key leadership role within the company's Global Policy and External Relations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of policy professionals, including subject matter experts, state policy leads, and data analysts. The role involves shaping the company's public policy agenda, driving policy solutions at both state and national levels, and ensuring that the team's goals are measurable and scalable. The Executive Director will also provide strategic guidance, oversee rapid responses to policy questions, and make the team's work visible throughout the organization. A significant part of the position is dedicated to team management, including coaching, mentorship, and fostering a strong culture of inclusion.Candidates for this role should have a bachelor's or master's degree in a related field, with a preference for those with a focus on education, and at least 10 years of experience in the public policy arena. A minimum of 5 years managing a team of direct reports is required. The ideal candidate will have advanced skills in policy analysis, excellent communication abilities, and a proven track record of designing, testing, and scaling new policy ideas. Experience in K-12 policy at the state level, with legislatures or other policymakers, is essential. The role demands a strategic thinker who can apply their expertise to innovative policy development and is adept at collaboration and portfolio management. The candidate should be a highly effective and engaging communicator, capable of distilling complex information into strategic takeaways.
