Job Description - Executive Director, MSL Team


Summary: This section focuses on the main purpose of the job in one to four sentences.

The Executive Director, Medical Science Liaison Team reports to the Vice President, Medical Affairs. This position will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the MSLs supporting TerSera’s products by developing and managing standardized systems, processes, resources, and training to support the MSLs. This role ensures that MSLs are equipped to effectively engage with Health Care Providers (HCPs), Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and other key healthcare decision makers to achieve Medical Affairs and organizational objectives. This position is based in the Deerfield, IL TerSera headquarters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This section contains a list of the major responsibilities of this role that account for 5% or more of the work. The incumbent will perform other duties assigned.

  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement a comprehensive vision, strategy, and tactical MSL plan (i.e., territory plans and annual conference coverage) that aligns with the overall objectives of Medical Affairs and the broader organization. 
  • MSL Onboarding and Field Coaching: Develop and manage a robust on-boarding curriculum for new MSL hires as well as an ongoing process and related tools for continuous field coaching and assessment. 
  • Training: Develop and execute on robust training plans related to product data, disease state, treatment landscape, and field compliance.
  • Resources: Determines the resource needs of the MSL team and oversees the development of slide decks that support field-based interactions, ensuring alignment with overall company strategies and compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Systems: Leverage the digital tools and systems that document external engagement in order to deliver accurate and appropriately detailed monthly metrics reports to TerSera leadership.
  • MSL Operations: Oversee the operations of the MSL team which include, but are not limited to, the development and maintenance of territory maps, oversight of HCP lists, and the MSL team budget.

Non-Essential Functions: Standard non-essential functions for all TerSera Therapeutics employees.

  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward all customers and coworkers.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures of TerSera Therapeutics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. List knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Deep knowledge of relevant Medical Affairs and Field Medical regulations and compliance standards. 
  • Deep knowledge of MSL CRM systems and insight gathering tools.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time with occasional weekend responsibilities.
  • Experience working in the oncology therapeutic area preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, team, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of leadership, teamwork, strategic thinking, and results-orientation in meeting key objectives.
  • Proficiency in enhancing and improving current processes as well as implementing new processes and initiatives.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and adjust to changing business needs to meet organizational objectives.

Education and/or Experience: Include the education and experience that is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.

  • PharmD, PhD, RN/NP or MD/DO 
  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience; a minimum of 5 years of MSL experience and a minimum of 3+ years of leadership experience
