Job Description:
Organization ProfileScope
This is a system-level specialized expertise position that interacts with all facets of the Foundation and many important and influential audiences in the external community. It oversees strategy and conduct of specialized fundraising activities, complex financial arrangements, supervises staff, and has interactions with community-based professionals in legal, banking, and investment industries throughout the state. This position is required to reside within the Intermountain Health footprint, with a strong preference in the greater Salt Lake area. This role will require frequent travel across the system's geographic footprint.
Job Essentials
Develops a strategic plan for the office of gift planning that appropriately sets aggressive short- and long-range goals and supporting metrics to meet the system funding objectives and to enlist/motivate the support of operational leadership, frontline managers and staff, governing boards, physicians, and volunteers. This plan will be expected to integrate into the broader foundation strategic plan.
Develops and leads a comprehensive planned giving program, including strategy design and implementation of donor engagement processes focusing on individuals, families, foundations at a system level.
Develops system-wide planned giving printed materials, other media, and web-based programming.
Oversees, approves, and advances planned gift proposals and agreements.
Carries a personal portfolio of planned gift donor prospects.
Develops appropriate guidelines, materials, proposals, presentations, and related content for use by local philanthropy officers in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship.
Manages processes to track at the system level the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of planned gifts from individuals, physicians, employees, foundations, and corporations.
Manages processes to successfully track and move forward maturing planned gifts (estates, trusts, etc.) to efficiently close these donations in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring appropriate valuation, recording, and acknowledgement of these gifts.
Collaborates and works closely with Intermountain's accounting, finance, legal, and real estate departments for valuation, acceptance, and monitoring of complex planned gift arrangements and to develop and maintain audit-compliant records.
Conducts system-level cultivation, donor engagement and recognition, and communication programs and activities for planned gift donors and prospects including expansion/growth of a planned giving society, or the like.
Recommends strategies and processes for recognition and recording of planned gifts.
Serves as a public speaker on behalf of local Foundation offices and Intermountain Health as requested.
Is actively engaged in the community.
Pursues continued professional development through education activities and conferences, to enhance and increase specialized fundraising skills and to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, as well as related tax and legislative developments.
Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to others on issues related to healthcare philanthropy.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
Seven years as a fundraising professional including accomplished experience in a leadership position and with demonstrated achievement in systematic major gift fundraising with program/staff management.

Three years demonstrated accomplishment complex planned giving philanthropy programming and gift stewardship, including all aspects of estates, trusts, tangible personal property and real estate and appreciated assets gift vehicles
- and -
Knowledge of current tax laws and contemporary planned giving vehicles and the ability to teach and train other development professionals in the basics of planned giving.
- and -
Effective and motivating interpersonal skills, including relationship building and communication, in-person, over the phone, and via email with diverse groups of people (e.g. volunteers, civic/business leaders, board members, patients and their families, hospital staff, foundations and corporations, etc).

Demonstrated success in organizing and effectively utilizing volunteer leadership (ie committees) in effective planned giving fundraising practices

Demonstrated strong analytic and creative skills used to develop best practices, set strategic goals and consistently assess outcomes.

Strong project planning and management skills, demonstrating detail orientation, timeliness, and ability to work under pressure.
- and -
Advanced writing skills that produce clear, accurate, and persuasive communications (proposal materials, letters, presentations, etc.).

Effective public speaking and presentation skills.

Success in collaborating with colleagues in a complex matrix organization.

Experience using common software programs including Raisers Edge NXT, planned giving software, donor records systems, Internet research tools and social media applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in non-profit management, philanthropic studies, public administration, public relations, communications, marketing, English, or business.

Master's degree or Advanced Legal Degree.
Professional certification in CFRE or FAHP

Certified Planned Giving (CPG) certified
Fundraising experience in a healthcare environment.

Demonstrated history of increased responsibility and progression in the fundraising profession.

Demonstrated history of activity and awareness with local community needs and dynamics.
Interact with others requiring employee to communicate information.

Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.

See and read computer monitors and documents.
- and -
Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.
