Summary
The Executive Director of Special Education provides leadership and oversight for the delivery of special education services across Catholic K–12 schools. Rooted in the mission of Catholic education, the Executive Director ensures that students with disabilities are supported academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually, in full alignment with Church teachings. This position is responsible for strategic planning, program development, compliance, staff support, and family engagement to promote inclusive practices throughout the school system.
Essential Job Functions
Facilitates and provides oversight in the development of high-quality special education programs that reflect Catholic values and meet the needs of diverse learners.
Ensure compliance with state special education regulations while upholding the moral and ethical standards of the Catholic Church.
Collaborate with principals, pastors, teachers, and other leaders to support the integration of students with disabilities into all aspects of school life, including liturgical and extracurricular activities.
Monitor achievement of students with disabilities served throughout the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Lead and facilitate the implementation of the Building Strong Foundations Program including the Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and accommodation plans in place of IEPs when appropriate to include a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Framework.
Develop and provide professional development for teachers, administrators, and staff on differentiated instruction, inclusive practices to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities and special education issues.
Other Job Functions
Work with administrators and teachers to establish effective programs and other support services for students.
Support special education staff, including coordinators, dyslexia teachers, therapists, interventionists and instructional aides.
Monitor and secure allocated resources including researching grants for special education funding in Catholic Schools.
Serve as a liaison between Catholic schools and public agencies to advocate for equitable access to services and resources.
Assist in partnering with families to foster trust, collaboration, and faith-centered support in the education of students with disabilities.
Collect and analyze program data to evaluate effectiveness and inform decision-making.
Promote the dignity of every student, ensuring that all special education practices are rooted in the principles of Catholic social teaching.
Serve as Interim Principal when needed.
Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Skill in critical thinking and planning
Must be able to build and maintain professional working relationships with all levels
Knowledge of current standards in special education and K-12th
Proven ability to be an effective leadership coach
Strong skills in data analysis
Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team
Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of students
Must have good written and verbal skills
Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Working Conditions
Required to work some nights and weekends
Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
Required to work in standard work conditions
Qualifications
Education
Master's degree in special education, educational leadership or education.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Principal.
Minimum of three (3) years’ as a special education classroom teacher.
Experience in special education leadership and coaching.
Catholic school experience preferred.
License and Credentials
Special Education Teacher Certification required
Principal Certification required
Reliable transportation
Valid driver license
Valid vehicle insurance
Travel Requirements:
50% local and 0% overnight
