Expeditor

We’re looking for a reliable, skilled, and community-focused Expediter to support daily kitchen operations while helping to train and inspire the next generation of food service leaders from South LA. In this role, you will assist in helping us deliver an excellent and efficient guest experience. You’ll be the critical link between our kitchen and front-of-house teams, ensuring every plate is accurate, polished, and served with care. Your focus, efficiency, and attention to detail will help shape a professional, fast-paced kitchen culture — one that uplifts and mentors.

ABOUT SOLA IMPACT

The SoLa Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of SoLa Impact, works to end intergenerational poverty in South Los Angeles through community development and creating new access to economic and educational opportunities for youth and adults. Focusing on underinvested communities, SoLa increases access to jobs, mentorship, scholarships, skills-based technology programs and placement in the most competitive fields of tech, entertainment, and business. The Center will work to train and inspire a new generation of professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs at the intersection of technology, the arts and live entertainment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Kitchen Communication & Customer Service

• Manage the pass and coordinate food orders from the kitchen to front-of-house.
• Ensure all dishes are complete, plated correctly, and meet café quality standards.
• Communicate clearly with line cooks and cashiers to ensure timely service and guest satisfaction.
• Double-check orders for accuracy, dietary requests, and special notes before release.
• Call out and organize order tickets to keep the line running smoothly.
• Step in as secondary cashier if necessary.

Dishwashing & Cleanliness Support

• Wash dishes, cookware, and utensils efficiently during and after service.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary dish station, including floors, drains, and equipment.
• Restock clean dishes and utensils for line and prep stations.
• Kitchen Organization & Downtime Responsibilities
• Assist in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen throughout the shift.
• Wipe surfaces, sweep/mop as needed, and take out trash/recycling.
• Restock service areas, to-go packaging, condiments, and other front- and back-of-house needs.
• Support prep or light kitchen duties when dish station is clear.

Youth Training & Mentorship

• Serve as a role model excellent customer service skills, professionalism, cleanliness, and discipline for youth trainees.
• Support a positive, inclusive environment that reflects our values of respect and opportunity.
• Occasionally participate in café events, mentorship sessions, or community gatherings.
• Help teach trainees the role of an expeditor and best practices.
• Support the café’s mission by creating an inclusive and respectful environment.

Team Collaboration & Café Support

• Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth order flow and accurate communication.
• Assist with basic café tasks during slow periods, such as restocking, packaging to-go orders, and cleaning.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and peers to uphold high service standards.

Qualifications:

• 1+ years of experience in a customer-facing food service or retail role preferred.
• Familiarity with POS systems (e.g., Square, Toast, or similar).
• Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a community-first mindset.
• Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while staying calm and organized.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen.
• Strong interpersonal skills and passion for community service and mentorship.
• 1+ years of experience as an expediter in a café, bistro, or high-volume kitchen is required.
• Familiarity with food safety, sanitation standards, and dishwashing protocols.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to excellence and consistency.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus but not required.
• Prior experience working with youth or in mentorship-based settings is a bonus.

Physical Requirements:

• .Must be available for early morning or mid-day shifts, including some weekends.
• Ability to stand for long periods, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Valid food handler’s certification.
