Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Hospital Professional Liability Underwriter to join our team. We are seeking a candidate in our Atlanta, Boston, New York or Chicago office, but will consider other BHSI office locations for qualified applicants. This is a tremendous opportunity for an experienced Underwriter looking to broaden their skills and knowledge by joining a company that aims to do things differently. At BHSI we value data-driven, thoughtful underwriting as well as smart and engaging collaboration with claims and actuarial. We are seeking candidates with excellent character and capabilities to contribute to our team.

The experienced Underwriter will be responsible for expanding and developing new Hospital relationships, as well as growing a renewal book, through production & marketing calls with brokers and customers. Our underwriters analyze Healthcare Professional risks with broad opportunity for production across the Healthcare Industry Segment and collaborate with BHSI business units: Cyber, D&O, Property, Transactional Liability, and others.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Production Underwriting of Healthcare PL: primary, umbrella, excess, reinsurance
• Broad Professional liability underwriting experience in Healthcare preferred
• Conducting broker and insured meetings including travel
• Establishing, developing, and expanding broker relationships
• Learning and selling new healthcare products as they are introduced

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

• Hospital and/or Outpatient underwriting/insurance experience
• 3+ years of experience preferred
• Position located in BHSI office in Atlanta, Boston, New York or Chicago.
• Large account Underwriting and client experience preferred
• Strong underwriting acumen, effective communication, and negotiation skills
• Motivated, adaptable, analytical, and collaborative
• Proven leadership and record of effective execution
• BS/BA Degree or equivalent work experience

The base salary range for this position in New York is from $85,000 – $200,000 along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
