Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Resides within or willing to relocate within a reasonable response time distance (approx. 15 minutes) from the reporting location.
· Ensures that trucks, tools, and assigned equipment are properly used, and maintained.
· Climbs poles and operates out of bucket truck.
· Operate and maintain all line equipment.
· Bypass breakers in substations and downstream devices.
· Performs transmission switching with Generation and Transmission provider.
· Provides training and leadership for Apprentice Linemen.
· Ensures that all safety procedures and precautions are followed.
· Occasionally performs supervisory activities.
· Follows Cooperative, NESC, NEC, REA, OSHA, state, and other regulatory agency procedures and rules in the performance of all work.
· Satisfies callout rotation, duties, and responsibilities.
· Performs all necessary activities in construction, trouble shooting and maintenance of energized, and de-energized, overhead and underground distribution lines.
· Patrols lines, identifies, repairs, or replaces defective materials, equipment or unsafe conditions, and notifies supervisor if necessary.
· Required to be on-call, available to work weekends, holidays and non-standard hours as needed.
· Maintain professional working relationships with all employees, members, and vendors at all times.
· Maintain regular attendance; arrives to work on time and is ready to work.
· Use safe work practices at all times and in all situations.
· Must be able to appropriately handle confidential information and act within the practices established by the Bluebonnet Red Flag policy.
Tools and Equipment Used:
· Office Equipment including computer, printer, copier, fax, etc.
· Required to drive a cooperative vehicle.
· Required to operate heavy equipment.
· According to established business need, must maintain a mobile phone and appropriate communication plan.
Physical Demands:
· Requires repetitive motion of hands and fingers such as dialing and keyboarding.
· Will work on pole or in bucket, reaches and bends to perform work on the pole usually using hand tools weighing as much as 20 lbs.
· Climbs a pole with belt and equipment or hand tools weighing 40 – 50 lbs.
· Pushes and pulls transformers for proper placement for installation.
· Loads cable and other materials onto truck at warehouse.
· Operates hydraulic or manual tamp when backfilling dirt around poles.
· Clears brush in utility easement.
· Performs some digging when installing underground lines.
Work Environment:
· Extended time spent outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
· May work at heights up to 100 + feet above ground.
· Works in high light (broad daylight) and no or low light conditions – using hand held lantern or spot lights.
· Works in areas with possible exposure to poison oak, poison ivy and insect stings.
· Works in potentially hazardous conditions caused by pets and wildlife in or near the work site.
Education and Experience:
· Graduation from high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years’ experience and/or over 8000 hours of work in line construction field required.
· Thirty semester hours of college credit in power technology, electronics, communications technology, industrial technology, or related field may substitute for one year of the general required experience, with a maximum substitution of one year.
· Military service in an equivalent area may also substitute for work experience
Licensing and Certification:
· DOL Line Erector/Installer Certification preferred
· Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Must have working knowledge of transmission and distribution systems.
· Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot transformer banks, regulators, capacitor banks, breakers, and other electrical equipment.
· Approved by LCRA to switch transmission equipment in substations.
· Perform advanced distribution troubleshooting skills, both primary and secondary voltage.
· Knowledge in fusing and sectionalizing coordination.
· Basic computer skills in the following applications: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, NISC time entry, and work order processing.
· Ability to communicate effectively and positively; focused on improvement or problem resolution in a constructive, positive, and professional manner.
