Veterinary Nurse - Specialist Referral Practice

Animal Eye Care stands as Australia's premier Veterinary Ophthalmology Clinic, continually expanding its reach and influence. We are currently in search of an exceptional veterinary nurse to join our dedicated team on a permanent basis, offering a full-time schedule of 38 hours from Monday to Friday. In our commitment to fostering a healthy work/life balance, we have transitioned to a four-day workweek. Part-time opportunities may be available for the right candidate. With minimal reception duties thanks to our outstanding team of receptionists, you can concentrate on delivering exceptional patient care. While weekend work is not typically required, there is a rotating on-call schedule that averages one weekend every six weeks. As the first stand-alone veterinary referral practice in Australia, Animal Eye Care has set the benchmark for excellence in patient care and veterinary ophthalmology for over three decades, also leading the way in continuing education for veterinarians across Melbourne and beyond. We prioritise the well-being of our team, offering competitive remuneration above industry standards for qualified and experienced professionals.

Responsibilities include:

  Oversee patient comfort and monitor vital signs during anaesthesia while maintaining accurate anaesthesia records. 

Administer medications and manage IV catheter maintenance with precision. 

Provide clear communication to clients, particularly regarding detailed discharge instructions. 

Uphold exceptional standards of cleanliness and organisation in both the ward and surgical areas. 

Conduct instrument cleaning and sterilisation, with minimal involvement due to dedicated Vet Nurse Assistant support. 

Perform light reception duties, including triaging emergency cases, scheduling appointments, and coordinating with clients and referring veterinarians. 

Serve as an ophthalmic assistant post-training, conducting thorough ophthalmic histories and basic eye examinations. Execute tests such as pupillary light reflex (PLR), menace response, Schirmer Tear Test, and tonometry with expertise. 

  Collaborate effectively with the veterinary team to ensure optimal patient care. 

Maintain a professional demeanour while fostering a welcoming environment for clients and their    pets.

 

 Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:

At least 3 years of nursing experience 

Minimum Certificate IV or equivalent qualifications 

Strong enthusiasm for anaesthesia and surgical procedures 

Outstanding customer service and communication abilities 

Adaptable team player who collaborates well with diverse personalities 

Mature and responsible demeanour 

Must be an Australian citizen or possess valid work visa 

No prior experience in Ophthalmology necessary; comprehensive training provided 

Excellent time management and organisational capabilities 

Commitment to excellence in patient care and teamwork

  On site First aid officer and Mental Health First aid officer

Utilise advanced monitoring equipment, including a Mindray multi-parameter monitor and anaesthetic machine with built-in ventilator.
