Export Compliance Analyst (Deemed Exports \u0026 Technology Controls)\n\nLocation: Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA \nBusiness Unit: Global Trade Compliance / Export Compliance \nReports to: Export Compliance Manager, Aisha Maher\n\nBand: B3\n\nAbout Applied Materials\n\nApplied Materials is at the forefront of enabling the technologies that power modern life\u2014especially the rapid expansion of AI, which is accelerating demand for advanced semiconductors and next-generation manufacturing capabilities. This role supports responsible innovation by ensuring we comply with global export controls while enabling business growth.\n\nPosition Summary\n\nThe Export Compliance Analyst supports Applied Material\u2019s export compliance program with a primary focus on deemed export licensing and technology controls. You will help prepare and submit deemed export license applications, coordinate cross-functionally to collect required technical and HR data, administer and improve Technology Control Plans (TCPs) to protect controlled technology and comply with U.S. export regulations.\n\nThis is a great role for someone who is energetic, eager to learn, and excited to build expertise in export controls within the fast-growing semiconductor and AI ecosystem.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDeemed Export Licensing\n\n * Prepare, draft, and submit deemed export license applications and related documentation (e.g., technology descriptions, controlled technology matrices, supporting narratives and records).\n * Coordinate inputs with Engineering, R\u0026D, HR, Legal, Security and other relevant stakeholders to ensure accurate technical and employee information is captured.\n * Track licensing status, timelines, and agency requests; manage follow-ups and maintain clear internal communication on progress and outcomes.\n * Support post-approval compliance requirements, including license conditions, restrictions, reporting and internal communication of controls.\n\n\n\nTechnology Control Plans (TCPs) \u0026 Controlled Technology Management \n\n * Develop, implement, and maintain Technology Control Plans for controlled technology and projects involving foreign national access.\n * Partner with Security, IT, Facilities, and functional leaders to implement TCP controls (physical, IT, procedural) including:\n * access approvals and badging/visitor protocols\n * controlled document labelling and storage\n * system access reviews and permissions\n * segregation of controlled areas and secure collaboration practices\n * Conduct periodic TCP assessments and support internal audits to validate controls are working as designed.\n * Maintain TCP documentation, evidence, and records retention in alignment with company policy and regulatory expectations.\n * Assist with tracking and maintaining requirements for big IT projects\n\n\n\nProgram Support \u0026 Continuous Improvement\n\n * Support the Export Compliance Manager with reporting, metrics, process mapping, and SOP/work instruction updates.\n * Assist with export compliance training and awareness efforts\u2014especially as they relate to deemed exports and technology controls.\n * Participate in compliance reviews for new hires, interns, contractors, and visitors where controlled technology may be involved.\n * Help identify opportunities to simplify workflows, improve cycle times, and enhance data quality while maintaining compliance.\n\n\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Supply Chain, International Business, Engineering, Legal Studies, or related field.\n * 2 \u2013 4 years of experience in export compliance, trade compliance, HR compliance, security compliance, or related operational compliance role.\n * Working knowledge of U.S. export control concepts (e.g., EAR/ITAR fundamentals, controlled technology, foreign national access, recordkeeping).\n * Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.\n * Clear, professional communication skills (written and verbal) with comfort working cross-functionally.\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)\n\n * Experience with deemed export licensing and/or Technology Control Plans.\n * Familiarity with export classification concepts (ECCNs), controlled technology assessments, and/or technology release analysis.\n * Exposure to semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, hardware engineering, or R\u0026D environments.\n * Experience with compliance systems/tools (e.g., GTS, OCR/ECCN tools, ticketing systems, document management).\n * Professional certification (or interest in pursuing), such as CUSECO, CCS, or similar trade compliance credentials.\n\n\n\nCore Competencies \u0026 Success Traits \n\n * Energetic \u0026 proactive: You take initiative, follow through, and enjoy building structure in complex processes.\n * Curious \u0026 eager to learn: You ask great questions and quickly absorb technical and regulatory information.\n * Detail-oriented: You produce accurate work and maintain excellent documentation and audit trails.\n * Collaborative: You build trust across Engineering, Operations, Security, HR and Legal by being responsive and solution oriented.\n\n\n\n## Qualifications\n\n### Education:\n\nBachelor\u0027s Degree (Required)\n\n### Skills\n\n### Certifications:\n\n### Languages:\n\n### Years of Experience:\n\n4 - 7 Years\n\n### Work Experience:\n\n## Additional Information\n\n### \n\n### Shift:\n\n10-Day 8-Hr (United States of America)\n\n### \n\n### Travel:\n\nYes, 20% of the Time\n\n### \n\n### Relocation Eligible:\n\nYes\n\n### Referral Payment Plan:\n\nEmployee Referral (Standard)\n\nU.S. Salary Range:\n\n$92,000.00 - $126,500.00\n\nThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
