Position Summary

Ecology Auto Parts Inc. is seeking a skilled Fabricator to join our Fleet & Maintenance team at the Wasco shop. This role is critical to supporting the maintenance and reliability of our fleet by fabricating, repairing, and modifying vehicle parts, frames, and equipment. The Fabricator will work closely with mechanics, welders, and maintenance personnel to ensure fleet readiness and compliance with safety standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced metalworking skills, welding expertise, and the ability to interpret technical drawings while thriving in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair, and modify truck bodies, trailers, and equipment using welding, cutting, and metal-forming techniques.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to complete fabrication projects accurately.
• Operate shop equipment such as welders, grinders, torches, shears, and plasma cutters safely and effectively.
• Collaborate with mechanics and maintenance staff to assess needs and recommend fabrication solutions.
• Maintain equipment and tools in proper working condition; perform routine inspections and minor repairs.
• Ensure all fabrication work complies with OSHA safety standards and Ecology Auto Parts policies.
• Assist in maintaining spare parts inventory and contribute to accurate recordkeeping.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality in the shop.
• Support special fleet projects and perform additional duties as assigned by the Fleet & Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Critical Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certification in welding/fabrication preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in fabrication, welding, or related field (automotive or heavy equipment experience highly desirable).
• Proficiency in MIG, TIG, stick welding, and cutting processes.
• Strong knowledge of metal types, grades, and fabrication techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Experience with heavy truck/trailer repair or fleet maintenance a plus.
• Strong safety awareness and commitment to workplace safety standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Must provide personal hand tools; company provides specialty equipment.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and lift.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Work is performed in a shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, and dust.
• Use of protective equipment such as welding hoods, gloves, and safety glasses is required.

Compensation

The Fabricator position offers a competitive hourly wage range of $20.00 to $30.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401k plan with employer matching, generous paid time off, and life insurance coverage. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, certifications, and demonstrated skills.
