About the Role: As Facilities Coach at our California Nursery, you will lead the teams that keep the Nursery running: the automotive mechanic shop, metal fabrication shop, electrical maintenance and repair team, building and construction shop, and irrigation repair team, as applicable. You will build and run a Nursery-wide preventative maintenance program that reduces repair costs, while also managing break/fix repairs and capital projects. You will plan every job before it starts, so parts, labor, tools, and approvals are in place and work runs start to finish. You will keep an inventory of wear parts on hand so repairs are not delayed waiting on parts, and you will make full use of every shop and team to find innovative, cost-saving ways to repair and extend the life of our equipment, buildings, and infrastructure. - Lead a full-service facilities operation and coach a culturally diverse team of Craftsmen.
- Balance preventative maintenance, break/fix repairs, and capital projects, and track the data that shows the program is working.
- Plan work before it starts, with parts, labor, tools, and approvals staged so jobs run start to finish.
- Manage an inventory of wear parts to reduce downtime waiting on parts.
- Help shape the Nursery’s operating plan, annual operations budget, and capital budget, and keep department spending on track.
- Plan and coordinate purchasing of materials, supplies, and equipment through the requisition process.
- Keep every activity safe and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Build strong relationships with vendors, industry groups, and the community, and partner closely with fellow Coaches.
- 3+ years of experience in facility or equipment maintenance, or in a maintenance supervisor, shop lead, or similar maintenance leadership role.
- Experience or knowledge in diesel and gas engine repair, building and land maintenance, construction, and metal fabrication.
- Experience planning and scheduling maintenance or project work, such as work-order management, parts and resource staging, or production control.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs and parts inventory management for large operations.
- Management experience in planning, budgeting, and supervising a team (preferred).
- Comfort with Word, Excel, and Oracle, and a valid driver’s license.
- A self-motivated, organized, can-do attitude, and the willingness to learn and apply Monrovia Nursery Quality (MNQ) standards.
- Are open to working extended hours if needed, based on the business need.
- Are punctual and dependable.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds up to 50 pounds on occasion
- Have the full range of mobility in your upper and lower body, can reach overhead and work in various positions including stooping, standing walking, bending over, and squatting; can lift, pull, and push materials, use hands and fingers to feel, handle plants or operate objects, tools or controls; are able to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus, all with or without a reasonable accommodation.
