Job Description - Facilities Inspector

NOLA Public Schools Vision

Position Summary
The Facilities Inspector ensures that assigned OPSB facilities are in compliance with lease requirements and federal, state, and local guidelines. This will include performing routine inspections of leased buildings and identifying actions needed to preserve OPSB facilities in accordance with district policies and contractual obligations.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Performs thorough facility inspections of assigned OPSB facilities.
    • Monitors facility maintenance requirements as required by facility leases.
    • Communicates effectively with charter operators on the actions needed to remain in compliance with their contract terms and conditions.
    • Provides a detailed corrective action plan to charter operators that outlines non-compliant items and a timeline in which these items should be remedied;
    • Conducts follow-up inspections on non-compliant items to ensure progress is being made and/or issues have been rectified in a timely manner.
    • Provides oversight of small capital projects, including modification, alteration, and construction for assigned facilities.
    • Develops a schedule for the execution and completion of construction and small capital projects.
    • Identifies potential risks relating to construction and small capital project plans and is proactive in finding solutions.
    • Coordinates with charter operators and contractors to ensure there are no scheduling conflicts regarding construction and small capital projects with school activities and events.
    • Communicates with contractors regarding contract specifications and construction activities;
    • Serves as a resource and mentor for Charter Operators in the maintenance and operations of school facilities as defined within NOLA PS’s Facility Procedures handbook.
    • Measures contractors’ progress and performance to ensure projects are moving according to plan;
    • Provides timely updates to the Director of Facilities regarding construction and small capital project timelines and impending issues that would jeopardize completion on schedule and within budget.
    • Supports the preparation of reports for the State and Local board of education;
    • Serves on the first responder team in the event of emergencies or natural disasters.
    • Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or relevant discipline or a minimum of 5 years of experience related to construction, maintenance, or facility operations;
    • Experience overseeing K-12 school facilities and maintenance services strongly preferred.
    • Must have proficiency using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Access (or other equivalent database experience);
    • Advanced understanding of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to ownership of public educational facilities (i.e. AHERA, ADA, OSHA, etc.).

    • Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
    • Excellent written and oral communications.
    • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
    • Excellent conflict resolution and consensus building skills.

$50,400 - $78,735 a year
Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the workday; 
- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 30 pounds rarely; 
- Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals) rarely; 
- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely; 
- Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting.     

Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
