Job Description - Facilities Maintenance Technician



Full-time


Description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician provides general maintenance support to office buildings that may include replacing and adjusting lighting; controlling building temperature; storing, monitoring, and transferring equipment, furniture, and fixtures; and repairing general plumbing, carpentry, and electrical problems. May perform custodial work at times, but not on a full-time basis. Typically requires basic knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and wiring for telephones and/or personal computers. Resolves technical problems regarding maintenance operations and ensures security and electronic fire alarm systems are functional. Responsible for maintaining the organization’s auto fleet, including coordinating scheduled service, and performing routine generator testing to ensure backup power systems are operational.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent internal and external customer service representing the bank in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks in bank owned and leased facilities.
  • Replace and adjust lighting fixtures as needed.
  • Monitor and control building temperature systems.
  • Store, move, and transfer equipment, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Conduct minor repairs on plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems.
  • Provide occasional custodial support (not full-time).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to maintenance operations.
  • Ensure proper functioning of security systems and electronic fire alarm systems.
  • Maintain basic knowledge and application of electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and wiring for telephones and/or personal computers.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
  • Act as a liaison between building tenants and management companies.
  • Maintain and coordinate relationships with contractors who provide building repairs.
  • Assess performance of building vendors and suggest changes as needed.
  • Create and maintain reports on all deferred maintenance items. 
  • Quarterly review on the current condition of assets or facilities to determine if deferred items have worsened. Check for any new issues added to the deferred maintenance list.
  • Identify any critical risks or safety concerns that require immediate attention.
  • Rank deferred maintenance items based on urgency, cost impact, and operational risk. Use criteria such as safety, compliance, and asset lifecycle to prioritize tasks.
  • Update cost estimates for deferred items.
  • Align maintenance priorities with available budget and staffing for the upcoming quarter.
  • Document changes, updates, and justifications for continued deferral or scheduling.
  • Prepare a summary report for leadership or relevant departments and highlight critical items, budget implications, and recommended actions.
  • Develop or update the maintenance schedule for the next quarter and assign high-priority tasks.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety protocols and building regulations during maintenance activities.
  • Maintain the organization’s auto fleet, including:
  • Perform routine inspections and minor repairs on vehicles.
  • Schedule and coordinate regular servicing and preventive maintenance.
  • Monitor vehicle condition, mileage, and service records.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Arrange for repairs with external vendors when necessary.
  • Perform generator testing and maintenance, including:
  • Conduct routine operational tests and inspections of backup generators.
  • Perform load testing to ensure reliability during power outages.
  • Monitor fuel levels and generator performance.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of generator testing and servicing.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Maintain compliance with fire alarm and security system standards.
  • Efficient in scheduling and tracking maintenance and fleet service records.
  • Clear verbal and written communication for reporting issues and coordinating repairs.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software or spreadsheets.
  • Update service logs and maintenance records digitally.
  • Hold a clean driving record and valid license.

Education, training, and experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational or technical training in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in building maintenance or a related field.
  • Experience performing minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems and temperature control equipment.
  • Experience using maintenance tools, equipment, and basic computer systems for record-keeping.
