POSITION SUMMARY:
The Facilities Specialist takes pride in caring for the Butterfly Wonderland facility to ensure it stays clean, safe, and orderly for our guests. This position requires a talented trades personnel, friendly, detailed oriented personality that can effectively communicate with internal and external customers, contractors and vendors. Work closely with all leadership in the building.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily work closely with Director of Animal Care in the care of the building equipment for the lab areas inclusive of the Conservatory equipment
- Work Closely with the contractors servicing the boilers, HVAC systems, A/C units throughout
- Work closely daily on general repairs for Butterfly Wonderland and Odysea Laser + Mirror Maze, Sugar Drop Candy Shop as reported through work orders
- Respond to all work orders within 24 hours with a response “received”
- Any work orders should be reponded to within 48 hours to respective staff member as to direction/repair/information
- Weekly inspect swamp coolers, air conditioners, repairs to walls from guest interactions, department repairs have been completed
- Cleaning interior building 2 days a week as support to the contractual company – See the daily checklist. All washroom rooms – toilets, sinks, and floors washed, and rooms made odor free. Each morning before 9 at Butterfly Wonderland.
- Maintain daily all equipment in washrooms and review if working correctly – toilets sinks – report to Executive Director if need repair or replacement with 3 quotes for major repairs
- Handyman duties throughout the building – touch up paint on walls, repair furniture as needed for bolts, scrapes, tears
- Report all nonfunctioning equipment directly to Executive Director for assistance in repair or replacement with 3 quotes
- Maintain that all areas (retail, admissions, café, guest relations team in all areas, lunchroom, party room, emergence gallery, exit vestibules, and labs as per Director of Curatorial direction) are equipped each day with Kleenex, sanitizer for hands for guests as well staff member, sanitizing wipes.
- Maintain janitorial supplies on a weekly basis for ordering
- Inspect the building on a regular basis for any faulty equipment.
- Create a report weekly of all assignments being worked on or completed forward to Executive Director and Director of Animal Care
- Maintain the lunchroom and all equipment, the time clock is wiped down with sanitizer, washer/dryer is clean and working properly
- Check all piping for leaks on a regular basis – labs, café, party room
- Maintain the mixing and applications of all cleaning agents.
- Be actively involved in organizing and maintaining supply closets.
- Assist Cintas on monthly walk throughs for restock of First Aid Kits
- Maintain front of building, power wash walkway once a week, maintain benches, shades
- All doors through out the building are fully functioning correctly, respond to all personnel keys, cleaned parts annually on all crash bars, sweeps are inspected for defects and repaired/replaced
- Work closely with Fire Inspectors, once a year for annual inspection
- Repair/replace any issue from the fire inspection
- All handrails in the conservatory are covered with fresh wraps, as needed, to prevent any type of injury to guests or staff from loose rust annually
- Assist in the maintenance of the Pollinator garden as needed regarding, branch removal, watering
- Maintain boiler room is always neat and clean, accessible for all contractors
- Maintain tools utilized for building repairs
- Work a close liaison with the Alarm/Security company for defaults in the system that may occur to align repairs by them
- Work closely with all department and corporate management for any marketing signage needing to be hung or placed
- Review daily the trash levels in the café and back of house
- Basic knowledge on general – non trade repairs
- Recycle trash is separated and placed in correct receptacles at back of house
- All other duties assigned
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2-year previous handyman, maintenance experience required.
- Friendly, outgoing, and proactive approach.
- Ability to learn and perform all janitorial/maintenace responsibilities.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Ability to work with general tools for repairs of basic equipment
- Ability to work with paints
