Job Description - Facilities Support Technician

ACCEPTING INTERNAL APPLICATIONS ONLY

Position: Facilities Support Technician

Classification: Non-Exempt

Supervisor: Facilities & IT Support Manager

Pay: 20.85 - 25.00 per hour (pay is determined based experience and qualification)

Objective: This position involves performing routine maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment to support the organization's programs and services. The Facilities Support Technician works collaboratively with staff and volunteers to maintain a welcoming, safe and functional environment for employees, clients and the community.

Responsibilities:

Facilities Maintenance:

  • Performs regular inspections of facilities to identify and address maintenance needs, such as lighting, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems.
  • Completes minor repairs (e.g., fixing doors, patching walls, replacing fixtures) and supports the facilities manager and external contractors on larger projects.
  • Monitors and maintains building security systems, including locks, alarms, and cameras.

Groundskeeping:

  • Ensures the upkeep of outdoor areas, including landscaping, snow removal, and trash collection.
  • Maintains parking lots, sidewalks, and entryways to provide safe and accessible spaces for staff and clients.

Equipment and Supplies:

  • Performs preventative maintenance on organizational equipment and tools as directed.
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and order replacements as needed.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Assists in maintaining compliance with health, safety, and fire regulations.
  • Responds promptly to safety concerns and hazards to minimize risks.
  • Attends and plays an active role at Safety Committee meetings.

Support Services:

  • Sets up and breaks down furniture, equipment, and supplies for events, meetings, and programs.
  • Assists with receiving and distributing deliveries or donations as needed.
  • Assists retail locations with sales and services when assigned by the facilities manager.
  • Uses office communication tools to respond and cooperate with other LCS staff.

Other:

  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some experience in facilities or custodial work is preferred
  • Demonstrated acumen for troubleshooting and fixing building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and for performing a variety preventative maintenance tasks
  • Basic skills in general facilities and ground maintenance and repairs
  • An ability to uphold workplace safety standards and regulations (e.g. OSHA)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and perform assigned tasks effectively
  • Respect for and the ability to maintain employee and client confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel)
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (exception period will be granted to internal applicants)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to building maintenance
  • Availability to respond to emergencies outside of standard work hours

Cognitive Skills: Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and dining hall guests. The employee is frequently required to use written communication and is occasionally required to use math skills. Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to be on their feet, walking and standing. The employee is frequently required to reach, handle (hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hand or hands), finger (picking, pinching, fine manipulation). The employee is required to bend, squat, climb stairs, push and pull. The employee is required to crouch, kneel, balance, twist, and stretch. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move between 25-50lbs and minimally required to lift and/or move 50+lbs.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly exposed to noise and will occasionally be exposed to fumes from equipment and cleaning elements. The employee will also experience various temperatures from hot temperatures (e.g., boiler rooms) to cold temperatures (e.g., walk-in cooler and freezer, outdoors).
