Facilities Technician

About the Facilities Apprentice role

• Diagnose and troubleshoot a variety of coffee brewing equipment, primarily Wilbur Curtis, La Marzocco and Eversys machines
• Support cafe operations by performing all aspects of preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of equipment (HVAC air handlers, blowers, fridges, freezers)
• Work directly with restaurant customers to install, train and repair their coffee equipment
• Follow established best practices in ensuring personal, equipment and food safety
• Must be available to work on weekends & possess a valid driver's license

You'd make a great Facilities Apprentice if you:

• Comfortable with ambiguity - things break! Sometimes the plan for the day will need to be reprioritized but every day you will be responsible for identifying and solving problems to support our cafes and customers
• Technically Inclined - You don't need to know how to fix every component of an espresso machine yet, but you'll need to be capable of learning our equipment and the technical details of our cafes
• A strong communicator - you'll be communicating directly with our customers, other members of the Compass team and original equipment manufacturers on a daily basis, in writing, over video calls and in person
• Highly organized - You are responsible for maintaining your tool kit and operating in our cafes while we are serving customers

Summary of Experience

• Trade program (or comparable on the job training) preferred but not required

Basic Qualifications

• Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and/or  holidays to support cafe operations
• Engage with and understand our customers, including discovering and responding to customer needs through clear and pleasant communication
• Able to lift 50lbs unassisted, 75lbs with a buddy
• Climb and work from a ladder 8' tall
• Ability to reach above shoulder level, climb, balance, kneel, bend over, etc.
• Ability to use hands and fingers to work on small electrical or mechanical components 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in English, including technical language
• Likes coffee and believes in the value of what we do 
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment independently
• Proficiency in computer use
