Roane Youth Academy in Rockwood, Tennessee, is a 56-bed Youth Academy providing trauma-informed residential care for boys ages 12 to 17. The center combines intensive mental health and sub-acute psychiatric treatment with structured education, art, music, and recreation therapies, alongside medical and clinical services delivered 24/7 in small group living units.
Youth typically remain in care for 3 to 6 months for intensive mental health services (or 30 to 60 days for sub-acute psychiatric treatment), participating in individual, family, and group therapy; social and life skills training; victim-impact awareness; restorative justice programming; and pre-vocational preparation. Programming is designed to support emotional stabilization, family engagement, and successful reintegration into home and community settings.

Position Summary – Facility Maintenance Worker Job in Rockwood, TN

We are hiring a Facility Maintenance Worker to support the daily operations of RoaneYouth Academy. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in building and grounds maintenance who want to make a meaningful impact in a residential treatment environment. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient facility to ensure a supportive setting for youth and staff.

Facility Maintenance Worker Responsibilities

• Manage building services including maintenance, groundskeeping, parking areas, and facility safety

• Conduct regular building inspections and take proactive steps to ensure a safe, efficient, and presentable environment

• Oversee safety and security measures, including fire, burglary, and facility closures

• Monitor and maintain close circuit security systems and access card operations

• Support program managers by identifying and coordinating maintenance projects and repairs

• Track and maintain facility fire and health inspections and ensure timely resolution of deficiencies

• Direct contractor activities related to facility maintenance, equipment, and grounds

Other Duties Include

• Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth

• Participate in training and development activities as required

• Report any acts, incidents, or conditions reflecting inappropriate behavior

• Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per guidelines

• Perform other duties as assigned or needed

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Ability to pass background check and drug screen

• Strong organizational and communication skills

• Ability to foster a positive, team-oriented work environment

Preferred Experience

• 3+ years’ experience in facility maintenance or related roles

• Prior project management experience strongly preferred

Other Requirements

• Physical Demands: Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds. Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision. Ability to drive for extended periods.

• Other: Must maintain an appropriate and valid state driver’s license. Must meet company auto insurance requirements. Must meet state criminal background check and pre-employment screening requirements.
