LOCATION: Soldotna, AK (This is an on-site position, not a remote position)


JOB TITLE:  Faculty - Assistant Professor, Christian Formation


DEPARTMENT: Academic


REPORTS TO: Provost


STATUS: Part-time, exempt (0.8 FTE, 4-part faculty workload)



PURPOSE: To provide education, instruction, and mentoring in specific educational content to students at Alaska Christian College.



RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Serves as Chair of the Christian Ministry and Bible Core curriculum.

  2. Plan, evaluate, and revise course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, handouts, course content, and methods of instruction.

  3. Present course material in such a way that enables students to achieve a biblical worldview.

  4. Teach course material according to ACC procedures on syllabi and assessment.

  5. Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, examinations, and papers.

  6. Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook.

  7. Maintain and report course-related assessments in a timely manner.

  8. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions and instructional activities. 

  9. Provide instructional and assessment accommodations to students with documented physical and learning disabilities. 

  10. Provide academic advisement and mentoring to students as assigned.

  11. Maintain a clean, safe, and unobstructed workspace.

  12. Engage in research or scholarly activity.

  13. Participate in continuing study and professional development.

  14. Contribute to the growth and development of the student body through service to the college and community.

  15. Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) manual for this position.

  16. Other duties as assigned.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Adjunct faculty, teaching assistants.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Master’s degree in instructional field or appropriate graduate work in instructional area.

  2. Successful experience in teaching undergraduate students, with a variety of courses.

  3. Demonstrated good communication skills, both verbal and written.

  4. Ability to incorporate new information on current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

  5. Ability to identify the educational needs of the students and develop formal educational or training programs to meet those needs.

  6. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  7. Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality of all information seen or heard.

  8. Must be detail-oriented, with a high degree of accuracy and skill in all work performed.

  9. Must be able to function well in a cross-cultural environment, show a learning attitude, and willingness to be a team player.

  10. Must be able to work independently and show good judgment.

  11. Must be organized, efficient, and show good time management skills.

  12. Must be reliable and dependable with regular, timely attendance.

  13. Must have adequate physical capabilities to meet the responsibilities of the job.  



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Successful experience and commitment to ministry with Native Alaskan students.

  2. Demonstrated skills in using educational technology. 

  3. Successful experience in ministry with diverse populations. 

  4. Knowledge of multicultural teaching practice and experience with diverse populations. 



WORKING CONDITIONS:


These duties will be conducted in a classroom environment with limited exposure to hazardous materials.  



DRESS CODE:


Within the office, “business casual” dress is expected.  Jeans are acceptable as long as they are clean and well-kept.  If any questions arise regarding what is appropriate, speak with the faculty supervisor.
