Faculty - Lower School PE Teacher

Work Schedule: Full-time; School year

Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Head for Teaching & Learning in Lower School, the Lower School PE Teacher will plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program that teaches students knowledge of and skills related to physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports. 

The Lower School PE Teacher will maintain a classroom environment that supports each student’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth and development in accordance with the policies and philosophy of The Lamplighter School. This teacher will also collaborate with colleagues while maintaining a positive team attitude.

Job Responsibilities: 

• Plans, develops, and implements curriculum for use in the classroom
• Revise and modify curriculum accordingly throughout the year, as necessary
• Utilizes curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served
• Cultivates effective professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
• Create positive educational climate for students 
• Attends all required school meetings and public-relations events, including participate in school committees and extracurricular activities as required
• Engages in professional development to stay abreast of current topics in education
• Fulfills expectations for report writing and assessment of student work and progress
• Understands and supports The Lamplighter School commitment to diversity and inclusion
• Performs all other related duties as assigned

Requirements

 Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
• Knowledge and experience teaching ages 6 - 10 years 
• Experience in designing curriculum

• Knowledge of current trends and research in early childhood learning
